Omni Flash 4K in a YouTube Short: why 1080p is the upload ceiling

YouTube's Shorts page lists 1080p as the maximum upload resolution. A 4K Omni Flash clip is for crops and zooms; render the Short at 1080 by 1920 in Timeline.

YouTube's Shorts help page gives 1080p as the maximum upload resolution. If you generate with Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 at 4K, the extra pixels pay off only when you crop or zoom into the frame. For a straight Short, render at the Timeline default of 1080 by 1920 and save the 4K price for work that needs it.

What YouTube's page says

"Get started creating YouTube Shorts" (read 2026-10-05) says Shorts can be up to 3 minutes and the maximum upload resolution is 1080p. It does not list other dimensions, so this post does not either.

What Omni offers

Per the model page, gemini-omni-flash-1.1 offers 360p, 720p, 1080p and 4K, clips of 3 to 10 seconds, 16:9 and 9:16 only, and native audio. The list rates are $0.03, $0.10, $0.15 and $0.30 per second respectively, from fal as of 2026-08-28; read GET /v1/catalog for the live price.

Omni Flash 1.1 list price per second (docs.sume.com, read 2026-10-05)
ResolutionList per second10 s clip
360p$0.03$0.30
720p$0.10$1.00
1080p$0.15$1.50
4K$0.30$3.00

When 4K helps

A 4K source gives Timeline 1.0 room: a slot with fit set to cover at 1080 by 1920 downsamples a 4K 9:16 frame, which is the clean case. If you want to push in on a detail, the extra resolution means the zoom stays sharp at 1080p. The output edge is limited to even integers from 256 to 2160.

If you do not zoom, 1080p generation is enough for a 1080p upload and costs half as much per second at the list rates above.

  • Draft at 720p, finalize only the keepers at 4K.
  • Render the Short with the Timeline default size.
  • Use the plan route to check the timeline before you pay.

A rule of thumb

Match generation resolution to the largest size you will actually show. For a Short on YouTube that is 1080 by 1920 in normal use.
