Zoom Clips custom avatar: 18 minutes a month vs per-second billing
Zoom's Custom Avatar add-on lists 5 avatars and 18 minutes of AI video a month. See how that compares with paying Sume per second, with worked costs.
Zoom Clips has an AI video generator that makes a presenter video from a script, an AI-written script or a slide deck. Its product page lists a Custom Avatar add-on with 5 custom avatars and 18 minutes of video generation per month, and says pre-built avatars are available and the video can be translated into up to two additional languages out of 16. I read the page on 2026-10-04.
If you make a few videos a month, a monthly allowance like that may be right. If your volume is uneven, pay-per-second billing is worth pricing out.
What 18 minutes is in seconds
18 minutes is 1,080 seconds. At Sume's standard rate of $0.184 per second with no product image, 1,080 seconds costs 1,080 x $0.184 = $198.72. At plus ($0.245) it is $264.60. I do not list Zoom's add-on price here, because I could not read a figure for it on the page; check Zoom's own pricing before comparing totals.
- Standard: $0.184 per second, 18 min = $198.72.
- Plus: $0.245 per second, 18 min = $264.60.
- Max: $0.55 per second, 18 min = $594.00.

| Video allowance | 18 minutes a month | None; billed per second used |

| Languages | Up to two extra, from 16 | Write the script in the language you need |
| Length per video | Not stated on the page | 4 to 60 seconds per request |
When per-second billing wins
Billing per second helps in a month where you make one 30 second clip: at plus it costs 30 x $0.245 = $7.35, and you owe nothing the month after. It also helps when each video needs a different avatar, since creating one is a flat $0.95 from a prompt, a profile (ethnicity, sex, age 20 to 80) or a public photo.
A monthly allowance helps when you make the same volume each month and want a predictable bill, or when you already live in Zoom. Sume's route is an API and a playground, not a meeting-tool add-on.
How to test it
Create an avatar, then call the talking-video route once with quality: "standard" and a 15 second script. That costs 15 x $0.184 = $2.76. If the face and voice suit you, raise the quality tier only for the final render. Avatar previews are independent of quality, so changing the tier later needs no new preview.
