YouTube may add a Made with AI label you can't remove

YouTube says it can apply a Made with AI label itself on undisclosed content, and creators cannot remove it. What to decide before you upload a Sume-made Short.

Disclosing is your call, until YouTube makes it for you. The help page on how this content was made disclosures says the labels appear in the video player or in the expanded description under a "How this content was made" section. The main one is "Made with AI".

When YouTube applies it

The page says YouTube applies labels without creator input "when content is undisclosed, in some cases", and that creators will not have the option to remove such a label. It also says YouTube carries forward a disclosure from Content Credentials (C2PA) data, version 2.1 or higher, that indicates the entire video was made with AI.

Why that changes the workflow

The disclosure page says non-compliant creators can face manual labeling, or penalties including content removal or suspension from the YouTube Partner Program. So the cheap path is to decide at upload time, not to wait for a label.

  • Realistic AI footage of a scene that did not occur: disclose.
  • A real person made to say something they did not: disclose.
  • Captions, color, and effects only: the page lists these as exempt.
  • Not sure: disclosing, per the page, does not limit audience or monetization eligibility.

A habit to keep

Write the disclosure decision into the same checklist you use for length and aspect ratio. A one-line note per Short (what is generated, what is filmed, answer given) is enough to audit later.
