Wix Video minimum size 480x470: crop and scale with video filter

Wix Video accepts 480x470 to 1920x1080. Sume video-filter crops by fractions and runs scale or pad in a filtergraph, with a free check before the encode.

Wix Video lists a supported size of 480x470 to 1920x1080 pixels. To fit a clip into that window with Sume, send POST /v1/video-filter with a crop op in fractions of the frame, then a filtergraph using scale or pad. Both are on the filter allowlist, and a free /check call validates the program before you pay for an encode.

Wix figures are from its supported-files page; Sume behavior from Video filter and the allowlist in packages/timeline-compiler/src/filter.ts, read 2026-10-01.

What are the Wix size limits?

480x470 to 1920x1080 pixels, 15GB per file, and the upload is transcoded into MPEG4 with H.264. A clip below the minimum on either side is the case this post covers.

How do I crop and scale in one job?

ops[] run first (up to 8), then the filtergraph. A crop op takes x, y, width and height as fractions of the source frame, so you do not need to know the pixel size. The filtergraph is filters only: no inputs, outputs or paths, and no stream specifiers such as [0:v].

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-filter/check \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/clip.mp4",
    "ops": [{ "op": "crop", "x": 0.1, "y": 0, "width": 0.8, "height": 1 }],
    "filtergraph": "scale=960:-2"
  }'

What are the limits?

Video filter limits from the Sume docs, read 2026-10-01.
LimitValue
OpsAt most 8, applied before the filtergraph
Crop fractionswidth, height 0.05 to 1; rectangle stays inside the frame
FiltergraphMax 2048 chars, 32 named filters
Source lengthUp to 300 s
Geometry filters allowedcrop, scale, pad, setsar, setdar

Should I check before encoding?

Yes. /v1/video-filter/check runs the same schema, allowlist and source checks and returns diagnostics, with no job, no reservation and no encode. A program that passes can still fail on the worker, and that comes back as a job error. See the free dry run.

Does Sume guarantee the output lands inside 480x470?

Not as a setting. The docs say output inherits source geometry unless the program changes it, and the crop compiler rounds to even values for yuv420p. Compute the final size from your source and the scale you write, then read the result's dimensions before uploading to Wix. A pad can fill a short side after scaling, at the cost of bars.
