Wix Stores promo video maker vs a custom AI product clip
Wix Stores can auto-make a promo video per product, free. When is a custom Sume image-to-video clip from your own photo worth the extra step? A side-by-side.

If you want a quick branded promo for one Wix product, use Wix's own Promotional Video tool: it creates videos for you automatically, and Wix says there is no limit on how many you can make for free (read 2026-10-03). If you want motion that comes from your own photo, a specific scene, or hundreds of products made the same way, a custom clip from Sume's video API is the better fit.
They are different jobs. One is a templated promo with your name, price and call to action. The other is a generated shot you direct.
What does Wix's promo video maker do?
The Wix help page describes the flow: open Store Products, select a product, click Promote this product, then Promotional Video. You can preview the videos made for you and save one as is, or customize it. It also says you can make a video from your media files, not just a single product (read 2026-10-03).
| Item | What the Wix page says |
|---|---|
| Start | Store Products, product, Promote this product, Promotional Video |
| Text you can edit | Product name, business name, price, call to action |
| Design | Video style, layout (horizontal, vertical or square), two colors, font |
| Audio | Background music, with an on/off toggle |
| Ending | Optional business info and logo |
| Cost | No limit on the number of videos, free |
| Share | Product page, Facebook business page, YouTube, download |
| Where saved | Your Media Manager |
What can a custom Sume clip do that a template cannot?
Sume's video API starts from your own image. In POST /v1/videos, frame_images with a frame_type of first_frame or last_frame sets an exact starting frame (image-to-video), while input_references give style guidance (reference-to-video). If both are sent, frame_images wins. You write the prompt, pick the duration, resolution and aspect ratio from what the model lists in GET /v1/videos/models, and the result is a clip of your product moving in the scene you described.
That is a creative control Wix's page does not describe: its customizations are text, colors, layout, font and music. The Wix video is a promo wrapper around your product media. The Sume clip is new footage derived from one photo, so check the first frame against the real product before you publish. Generated footage can drift on small details such as printed text or logos, which a template that only overlays your name and price will not do.
curl -sS -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/videos \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "seedance-2",
"prompt": "Slow push-in on the product on a sunlit kitchen counter",
"frame_images": [{
"type": "image_url",
"image_url": {"url": "https://example.com/packshot.png"},
"frame_type": "first_frame"
}],
"resolution": "720p",
"aspect_ratio": "1:1"
}'How do the two compare?
Wix's tool wins on speed and cost for a single product: no API, no code, no prompt. Sume wins when the look of the footage matters or when you need the same treatment across many SKUs. Neither replaces the other, and you can use both on one store. A common split is the generated shot as the hero clip on the product page, and the Wix promo as a shareable ad for Facebook or YouTube, since Wix's page lists both as share targets. Decide by the job each video has to do, not by the tool.
| Question | Wix promotional video | Custom Sume clip |
|---|---|---|
| Input | A store product and its media | Your own image as first or last frame, or references |
| Control | Text, colors, layout, font, music | Prompt, duration, resolution, aspect ratio |
| Scale | Per product in the dashboard | One API call per clip; bulk via Formats |
| Price | Free, per Wix's page | See pricing_skus in GET /v1/videos/models |
| Result | A templated promo | A generated shot of your product |
| Limits | See the Wix page | Model-specific durations and resolutions |
How do you get a Sume clip onto a Wix product page?
Download the finished clip, check it against Wix's product video limits (AVI, MP4, MOV or MPEG, up to 50 MB, per the Wix media page, read 2026-10-03), then upload it from Products, Add Media. The Wix video size post linked below has the size check and the trim step. Poll your generation with GET /v1/videos/{id} and read the file once it is done.
Sume pricing varies by model, so this post gives no price. Read it from the pricing_skus field of GET /v1/videos/models for the model and settings you plan to use.
- Use Wix's Promotional Video for one-off promos with your name, price and call to action.
- Use a Sume clip when you need your own scene, camera move or product shot.
- Compare the generated first frame with the real product before you publish.
- Keep clips under Wix's 50 MB product video limit.
- Make the Sume clip first, and use the Wix tool for a branded wrapper if you want one. The Wix page says you can build a video from your media files.
