TikTok pop-out showcase: 8 s minimum, 3 s in, 5 s tail
TikTok's pop-out add-on needs video of at least 8 s; the pop-out shows 3 s in and ends 5 s before the end. Work out the window and trim a clip to fit on Sume.

A TikTok pop-out showcase needs a video of at least 8 seconds, and the pop-out can appear only 3 seconds after the ad starts and at least 5 seconds before it ends. TikTok suggests more than 15 seconds. That leaves a visible window of video length minus 8 seconds, so an 8 s ad has zero seconds of window and a 15 s ad has 7.
What TikTok's page says
Figures below come from the TikTok Ads Help page for the interactive add-on pop-out showcase.
| Item | TikTok says |
|---|---|
| Video length | No less than 8 seconds, suggested more than 15 seconds |
| Earliest pop-out | 3 seconds after the ad starts playing |
| Latest pop-out | At least 5 seconds before the ad finishes |
| Pop-out element | PNG, 448x448, 100 KB to 500 KB (supplied by you, not made in Sume) |
| CTA text | Up to 27 English characters, or 13 Chinese, Japanese or Korean |
The window, by length
The earliest start is 3 s and the latest end is length minus 5 s, so the pop-out window is length minus 8 s long. This is arithmetic on TikTok's two numbers, not a TikTok figure.
| Video length | Pop-out can show from | Until at most | Window |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 s | 3 s | 3 s | 0 s |
| 10 s | 3 s | 5 s | 2 s |
| 15 s | 3 s | 10 s | 7 s |
| 20 s | 3 s | 15 s | 12 s |
Cut a clip to fit with Sume
If your product moment lands at second 6 of a longer clip, start the cut about 3 s earlier so it falls inside the window. Video trim cuts one Sume-hosted clip to a new MP4 with start and duration. Duration can run 0.2 to 900 s and the documented rate is $0.02 per job. The default exact precision is a frame-accurate re-encode, so your timing holds.
Here a 16 s cut starts at 12 s of the source, which gives a 3 s to 11 s window.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-trim \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: popout-cut-001" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/launch.mp4",
"start": 12,
"duration": 16
}'Verify the length
Read duration_seconds in the job result (GET /v1/jobs/:id/result). It must be at least 8 and, per TikTok's suggestion, preferably above 15. Use video inspect to probe any clip's duration before you submit it as the ad.
What this does not cover
The page gives no aspect ratio or file-size rule for the video itself, and Sume does not build the 448x448 pop-out element or the CTA. Check the ad-format page for the placement you buy for those.
