Where GMV Max creative videos come from, and where AI clips go

TikTok Product GMV Max only runs videos from connected accounts, Spark Ads posts or ACA, with a product anchor link. Where a Sume-made MP4 has to go first.

A finished AI video does not go into a Product GMV Max campaign as a loose file. TikTok's help page says creatives come from TikTok accounts connected to your shop or Business Center, from authorized Spark Ads posts, or from Affiliate Creatives for Ads (ACA), and the videos must be posted with a product anchor link (read 2026-10-03).

So the order is: make the MP4 with Sume, post it from an account the campaign can read, attach the anchor link, then add it in the campaign. Sume does the first step. It does not post to TikTok, and several catalog Format descriptions list "social posting" under what they are not for.

What does TikTok accept as a source?

The page lists five places a campaign can pull creative from. The row that matters for an AI-made clip is the one you already control: your own connected account, or a Spark Ads post you authorize.

  • The page says to grant permissions for each account you want to use.
  • Videos need a product anchor link when posted.
  • An "only show in ads" setting keeps a public video off your profile.

How do I produce the MP4?

The Formats catalog has ready-made ad shapes you can call with any key that carries formats:write: the sume handle serves them at POST /v1/formats/sume/{slug}/runs, and the run and its media belong to your key. For a product demo clip that is sume-product-usage-demo; for a creator-style selfie it is sume-close-camera-ugc.

Two things in the run body keep a batch safe: instruction carries the brief, and generation_spend_cap_usd puts a ceiling on one run. Read the actual price on the run receipt rather than assuming one.

curl -sS -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/formats/sume/sume-product-usage-demo/runs \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
  -d '{"instruction":"9:16 demo of the product being used once, 12 seconds",
       "input":{"url":"https://example.com/product.jpg"},
       "generation_spend_cap_usd":20}'

What do I do after the run finishes?

Download the finished file from the run receipt and post it from a connected account. The anchor link is a TikTok-side step: Sume has no field for it and cannot set it. If a clip needs a shorter cut before posting, video trim cuts a [start, end) range into a new MP4 for $0.02 per job, and it needs a clip that is already on media.sume.com.

Decide the account first. If the campaign reads from a creator's account, the creator has to grant ad delivery permission before your file can be used; an AI clip posted to your brand account avoids that wait.

What Sume cannot do here

Sume does not read your GMV Max campaign, check whether a video is eligible, or add anything to a Spark Ads list. The campaign editing page is where video codes go.

TikTok's separate rules on AI-generated shop videos are covered in TikTok Shop AI video rules. Check those before you scale a batch: a connected account does not exempt a clip from them.
