TikTok carousel ad specs: 2-35 images and three sizes
A standard TikTok carousel takes 2 to 35 JPG or PNG images at 1200x628, 640x640 or 720x1280. Here is how to map those onto Sume image settings.

A standard TikTok carousel ad takes 2 to 35 images as JPG/.JPEG or .PNG, with a suggested size of 100 KB or less, at 1200x628 (horizontal), 640x640 (square) or 720x1280 (vertical). A VSA carousel shows 2 to 20 images. Sume image jobs return up to four images per request, in the formats TikTok accepts.
Specs are from TikTok's carousel page ("Last updated: September 2026"); Sume limits from the Image docs, read 2026-10-01.
How do TikTok's sizes map to aspect_ratio?
| TikTok size | Shape | Sume setting |
|---|---|---|
| 1200x628 | Horizontal | Use a landscape aspect_ratio from the model's native list, then resize |
| 640x640 | Square | 1:1 if the model lists it; 409,600 px is below the custom-size floor |
| 720x1280 | Vertical | 9:16 if the model lists it, then resize |
Can I ask for 640x640 directly?
Not through custom pixels on the GPT models. The docs give the custom range as both edges multiples of 16, max edge 3840, aspect up to 3:1, and 655,360 to 8,294,400 pixels. 640x640 is 409,600, under that floor. Request a native aspect_ratio and resize the download in your own tool.
How many jobs does a 10-card carousel take?
num_images is an integer from 1 to 4, so ten cards is three jobs (4 + 4 + 2). A 35-image carousel is nine. Keep one prompt style and the same aspect_ratio across jobs so the cards match.
Which output formats work?
output_format accepts png, jpeg, jpg and webp. Use png or jpeg; avoid webp, which TikTok's list does not include. The 100 KB figure is only a suggestion, so compress after download. Planning a matching Instagram set? See the Instagram carousel guide.
