TikTok Buy Direct: a clip that answers before the one-click tap
TikTok announced Buy Direct checkout from the For You feed on Oct 5. Plan an 8-second clip with size, ship and stock lines for 20 SKUs at $26.00.

On Oct 5, 2026 TikTok announced Buy Direct, "a seamless in-app checkout solution that allows users to make purchases directly from a brand, without leaving TikTok" (TikTok Newsroom, read 2026-10-07). When the buy step is one tap from the feed, the clip itself has to settle the doubts that a product page used to settle. On Sume, an 8-second 720p clip with caption lines and a final render costs $1.30 per SKU, so 20 SKUs are $26.00.
What TikTok announced
TikTok presents Buy Direct as part of a set of AI-powered updates for advertisers announced at Advertising Week New York. The text I read gives no rollout date or seller requirements, so this article makes no claim about when your account gets it or what it needs.
What changes for creative is the distance between interest and payment. Before, a viewer tapped through to a page and read the size chart there. With one-click checkout, the questions that remain at the moment of the tap are the ones the clip has not answered.
Four lines the clip should carry
Use this list for each SKU. Put each line on screen as a caption, because many viewers watch without sound.
- Size or fit, in one short line, for example the model height and the size shown.
- Shipping, taken from your store policy, not from a guess.
- Stock, only if you can keep it true until the campaign ends.
- Price or offer, exactly as it appears at checkout.
Cost per SKU and for 20
A clip with these lines needs three parts. The picture comes from Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 at 720p, where an 8-second clip is 8 x $0.125 = $1.00. The lines are authored caption cues, which one caption job renders for $0.20 on a video of up to 60 seconds. The final file comes from one Timeline render at $0.10 per started output minute. The sum is $1.00 + $0.20 + $0.10 = $1.30.
For 20 SKUs the cost is 20 x $1.30 = $26.00. A retake budget of 20 percent adds $5.20, for $31.20 in all. Compare that with one returned order, which usually costs more than the whole set.
| Step | Price basis | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Omni clip, 8 s, 720p | 8 x $0.125 | $1.00 |
| Caption job with authored lines | per job, up to 60 s | $0.20 |
| Timeline render | per started output minute | $0.10 |
| One SKU | $1.30 | |
| 20 SKUs | 20 x $1.30 | $26.00 |
Fill the lines from your catalog, then check a frame
Write the lines from data, not by hand. A script that reads your catalog row and fills the cue text removes the chance of a price that differs from the checkout. Then pull one frame at the caption time and read it, as the video frames docs describe, before upload.
Keep the lines short. A viewer who has one second left before scrolling will read about five words. Put the most likely doubt first, and leave the rest to the product page and to TikTok's own shopping tools.
Finally, test the order of the lines. Two versions of the same clip that differ only in which line comes first cost $0.20 more for the second caption job, and they show you which doubt matters most for that product.
