Synthesia MCP: turn a script into a video draft in Claude

Synthesia MCP is Synthesia's hosted MCP server at https://mcp.synthesia.io/mcp, in public beta. From Claude or ChatGPT it turns an idea or a script into a Synthesia video draft and can then generate the final video; you edit drafts in the Synthesia editor, not in the chat.

How do I connect Synthesia MCP to Claude or ChatGPT?

You need a Synthesia Starter or Creator plan, or an enterprise workspace that signs in through WorkOS. Then:

• Claude, personal account: Synthesia isn't in Claude's directory yet, so add it as a custom connector. Go to Customize → Connectors, the + button, Add custom connector. Enter a name and https://mcp.synthesia.io/mcp, leave the OAuth client ID and secret empty, select Add, and sign in.
• Claude, Team or Enterprise admins: Organization settings → Connectors, Add, Custom, Web, then the same URL. Members then connect individually from Customize → Connectors.
• ChatGPT: Synthesia is listed in the ChatGPT marketplace. Go to Settings → Apps (or Plugins), find Synthesia, install or connect it, and sign in.
• Other clients: point them at the server URL. Synthesia tests only Claude and ChatGPT and calls other clients experimental.

Can I use Synthesia MCP in Claude Code?

You can try it. Synthesia says Claude and ChatGPT are the only clients it currently tests, and that other MCP clients may work but aren't officially supported. Claude Code's own docs add a remote HTTP server with claude mcp add --transport http <name> <url> and sign in through /mcp:

What does Synthesia MCP do, and what does it cost?

It exposes a small set of tools rather than the full Synthesia API. Creating a draft typically takes 30 to 90 seconds; generating the final video takes about as long as it would in Synthesia. Synthesia says generating through MCP costs nothing extra: it works the same way as generating directly in Synthesia.

What are the limits?

• No editing from the connector: you can't edit an existing video or refine a draft's script or visuals there; open it in the Synthesia editor.
• Brand kit selection is on Enterprise plans, where drafts use the workspace's brand kit, templates, and avatars; other plans pick one of Synthesia's curated Styles or a template.
• Search is keyword-based, not semantic, and has no date-range filter.
• Per-user hourly limits cap how many drafts and video generations you can start.
• Sign-in is OAuth via WorkOS, per user, and tool calls touch only the workspace you signed into.

How is a generation server such as Sume's different?

Synthesia's server makes drafts that live in Synthesia. Sume's hosted MCP server at https://mcp.sume.com/mcp runs paid generation jobs, avatar videos included, that the agent waits on and reads with jobs_result; its docs tell agents to report media.sume.com URLs (Tools and gates). For avatar videos, 720p is the documented resolution (Avatar videos), and speech is English only in current code. Sume basics says hosted MCP still works but is not the primary path today.
