HeyGen MCP server: URL, setup for Claude, and credits
HeyGen MCP runs at mcp.heygen.com/mcp/v1/. Add it to Claude Code or Claude, sign in with OAuth, and videos use your HeyGen plan's credits.

HeyGen MCP is HeyGen's remote MCP server at https://mcp.heygen.com/mcp/v1/. Add it as a custom connector in Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, or another MCP client, sign in to HeyGen through OAuth instead of an API key, and your agent can create avatar videos with the credits already in your HeyGen plan.
The HeyGen facts come from its MCP page and its developer docs for the remote MCP server, Claude Code, and Claude, read on 2026-09-28. Sume has no connection to HeyGen's server. For HeyGen's REST API, see HeyGen Video Agent API and pricing.
How do I add HeyGen MCP to Claude Code or Claude?
HeyGen's Claude Code guide says to run this in your terminal, not inside Claude Code; add -s user to make the server available in all projects:
- Authenticate: run
/mcpinside Claude Code and follow the browser-based OAuth flow.claude mcp listshould then showheygenas connected. - Claude on the web: go to + → Connector → Manage Connector → + Add custom connector, name it HeyGen, enter the URL, click Connect, and approve access on HeyGen's page.
- Other clients: HeyGen lists Claude (Web, Desktop, and Code), Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Lovable, Manus, Superhuman, and OpenAI, with a setup guide for each. A custom agent can point at the same endpoint, but HeyGen uses domain whitelisting, so an agent on a domain that isn't whitelisted must request access first.
- Finished videos also appear on the Projects page of your HeyGen dashboard.
claude mcp add --transport http heygen https://mcp.heygen.com/mcp/v1/Does HeyGen's MCP cost extra?
No, according to HeyGen. Its FAQ says video generation uses the premium credits included in your existing HeyGen plan, with no separate API charges or additional billing. MCP is available on all plans, including free accounts, and HeyGen recommends the Creator plan or above for heavier usage. Access is OAuth tied to your HeyGen account, so there is no API key to rotate.
What can the agent do through HeyGen MCP?
HeyGen's docs list tools in several groups. The main ones:
| Group | Example tools | What HeyGen says they do |
|---|---|---|
| Video Agent | create_video_agent, get_video_agent_session | One-shot video from a prompt: the agent handles script, avatar, scenes, and rendering |
| Videos | create_video, get_video | Video from a HeyGen avatar or an image, with a script or recorded audio; Avatar III, IV, or V engine, IV by default |
| Templates | generate_from_template | Video from a template by replacing its variables |
| Avatars | create_avatar, create_avatar_consent | Avatar from an image, footage, or a text prompt; consent before a private avatar is used |
| Lipsync | create_lipsync | New audio on an existing video, with lips re-animated to match |
| Account | get_current_user | Profile, remaining credits or balance, and billing details |
How do Sume's avatar tools over MCP differ?
Sume's hosted MCP server at https://mcp.sume.com/mcp also has avatar tools, with different rules. Sume basics says hosted MCP still works but is not the primary path today. From its tools docs and Avatar videos page:
- Read tools such as
avatars_listandavatars_searchwork in a read-only session;avatars_create,avatar-videos_create, andavatar-image-to-video_createare paid and returninsufficient_scopeuntil you turn Write on at consent. - The documented playbook: call the paid tool with
dry_run=true, repeat without it to submit, then wait withjobs_statusorjobs_waitand readjobs_result. - 720p is the documented resolution for avatar videos. Speech is English only in current code.
- Spend comes from the Sume workspace wallet, per job. Make AI UGC videos with Claude walks through the full flow.
