Suno Studio MIDI update: AI music to MIDI vs Sume audio files
Suno Studio's Sept 17 2026 MIDI update converts MIDI to audio and makes stems from a MIDI clip. Sume's music API returns one audio file, with no MIDI in or out.

If you want MIDI, Sume is the wrong tool: Music Router takes a text prompt and an optional image and returns an audio file. There is no MIDI input, no MIDI export, and no stem output in the docs.
Suno's September 17, 2026 Studio update is about exactly that MIDI workflow, so the two products serve different jobs.
What Suno Studio's MIDI update says
Suno's release notes for September 17, 2026 describe faster audio conversion from MIDI with better musical accuracy, and a chat bar that can create new audio stems from a MIDI clip (read 2026-10-02). The September 2 note adds that the chat bar is aware of BPM and tempo changes (read 2026-10-02).
Suno's pricing page lists Studio with MIDI, effects, automation and plugins under the Premier plan (read 2026-10-02).
| Item | Suno says |
|---|---|
| Sep 17 update | Improved MIDI transcription and generation; stems from a MIDI clip via chat bar |
| Sep 2 update | Chat bar aware of BPM and tempo changes; plugin duplication and dragging |
| Plan | Studio with MIDI, effects, automation listed under Premier |
What Sume gives you instead
The Music Router request is a prompt of 1 to 5000 characters, an optional public HTTPS image_url, and job fields like mode and webhook_url. Music 1.0 has no seed, temperature, guidance or duration parameter. The result is an audio artifact on media.sume.com.
Because there is no tempo field, put the number in the prompt, for example 84 BPM in C minor. The docs call such details creative directions, not guaranteed settings, so check the audio you get back.
Picking by job
Choose a DAW-style tool such as Studio when you will arrange, edit notes or export parts. Choose Sume when the music is a bed for a video: generate a track, then place it with the Timeline soundtrack field, which supports gain_db, loop, fade_out_seconds and duck_db.
If you need to change one section of a Sume track, there is no edit call. You write a new brief and generate again, which costs another fixed-price generation.
