OpenAI's deprecation page says developers were notified on March 24, 2026 that the Videos API and the Sora 2 model aliases and snapshots would be removed on September 24, 2026, and it lists no replacement. If you need a 8-second clip from an API, Sume's seedance-2-fast takes it (4 to 15 seconds allowed) and bills $1.1249 at 480p up to $2.4192 at 720p.

The shutdown facts are from OpenAI's deprecations page, read 2026-10-10. Sume's side is the video generation docs, the Video Router docs and API pricing.

What does a 8-second Seedance 2 Fast clip cost by resolution?

What changes in the request?

Sume's /v1/videos follows the OpenRouter video schema, so the fields are model, prompt, duration, resolution and aspect_ratio, and the result arrives through a polling_url. Check each field name against your old Sora call; this snippet is a complete request.

import os
import time

import requests

H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['SUME_API_KEY']}"}
job = requests.post(
    "https://api.sume.com/v1/videos",
    headers=H,
    json={
        "model": "seedance-2-fast",
        "prompt": "A paper boat drifts down a rain-soaked street at dusk",
        "duration": 8,
        "resolution": "480p",
        "aspect_ratio": "16:9",
    },
).json()
while True:
    s = requests.get(job["polling_url"], headers=H).json()
    if s["status"] in ("completed", "failed"):
        break
    time.sleep(10)
print(s["status"], s.get("unsigned_urls"))

What this leaves out

This is a pricing and limits page, not a migration guarantee.

  • The model is different, so prompts that worked on Sora may need rewriting.
  • Sume lists the catalog at the time of reading; run GET /v1/videos/models for the current set.
  • OpenAI's notice names no replacement, and this page does not claim one.
