Sora 2 is shut down: cost to re-render 200 clips on Sume models
Sora 2 and its API shut down Sept 24, 2026. Re-rendering 200 eight-second clips costs $100 to $400 on Sume models, versus the old Sora list of $160 to $1,120.

If you rely on Sora 2, the API is gone: OpenAI's Sora 2 model page (read 2026-10-04) says the Sora 2 models and Videos API were shut down on September 24, 2026, with no one-to-one replacement. Re-rendering a library of 200 eight-second clips (1,600 seconds) costs $100 on Sume's Wan 3.0 at 480p, $200 at 720p and $400 at 1080p, against the retired Sora list rates of $160 to $1,120.
The Sora numbers below are the last listed rates and are shown only so you can compare against a budget you already have.
| Model | Per second | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sora 2, 720p (retired) | $0.10 | 1,600 x $0.10 | $160.00 |
| Sora 2 Pro, 720p (retired) | $0.30 | 1,600 x $0.30 | $480.00 |
| Sora 2 Pro, 1024p (retired) | $0.50 | 1,600 x $0.50 | $800.00 |
| Sora 2 Pro, 1080p (retired) | $0.70 | 1,600 x $0.70 | $1,120.00 |
| Sume Wan 3.0, 480p | $0.0625 | 1,600 x $0.0625 | $100.00 |
| Sume H3 Max, 768p | $0.10 | 1,600 x $0.10 | $160.00 |
| Sume Gemini Omni Flash 1.1, 720p | $0.125 | 1,600 x $0.125 | $200.00 |
| Sume Wan 3.0, 720p | $0.125 | 1,600 x $0.125 | $200.00 |
| Sume Gemini Omni Flash 1.1, 1080p | $0.1875 | 1,600 x $0.1875 | $300.00 |
| Sume Wan 3.0, 1080p | $0.25 | 1,600 x $0.25 | $400.00 |
How the Sume rates are built
Sume bills provider list x 1.25 per output second, per the video docs. Wan 3.0 lists at $0.05, $0.10 and $0.20 per second at 480p, 720p and 1080p, so Sume is $0.0625, $0.125 and $0.25. Omni Flash 1.1 at 720p lists at $0.10 and 1080p at $0.15, so Sume is $0.125 and $0.1875. H3 Max at 768p lists at $0.08, so Sume is $0.10.
Sume reserves the amount at submit and refunds failed or cancelled jobs, so you only pay for finished clips.
Steps for the migration
- Sort the 200 clips by what they are used for. Hero shots can use the 1080p row; background loops rarely need more than 480p.
- Mix tiers. If 40 hero clips run at Omni 1080p ($0.1875 x 8 = $1.50 each, $60 total) and 160 at Wan 480p ($0.0625 x 8 = $0.50 each, $80 total), the library costs $140.
- Re-render a sample of five clips first. Prompts tuned for Sora will not look identical on another model, so budget retries.
- Submit through the Video Router if you want one endpoint across models.
Per clip, for the planning sheet
Per eight-second clip the numbers are $0.80 on the retired Sora 2 list, $0.50 on Wan 480p, $0.80 on H3 Max 768p, $1.00 on Wan or Omni at 720p, $1.50 on Omni at 1080p and $2.00 on Wan at 1080p. Add one retry per five clips and the Wan 720p library moves from $200 to 240 clips x $1.00 = $240.
Caveats
No other model is a drop-in Sora replacement: motion, audio and prompt style differ, so the real cost includes iteration. The Sora figures are the final listed rates and cannot be bought today. Source prices were read on 2026-10-04 and can change.
