Snapchat Saved Stories: 5-minute cap and 45-character titles
A Snap Saved Story can combine snaps up to 5 minutes with a title of 45 characters. Plan an avatar series as episodes of 60 seconds or less to fit the cap.
A Saved Story on a Snap public profile can combine snaps whose total duration does not exceed 5 minutes, and its title is limited to 45 characters. If you build the series with Sume avatar clips, plan up to five 60-second clips or more shorter ones, and write the title before you render so it fits.
What is allowed in a Saved Story?
According to Snap's Profile Asset Management page, a Saved Story can combine snaps from Spotlights, public Stories or uploaded media. The total cannot exceed 5 minutes, and the title is limited to 45 characters. The endpoint is POST https://businessapi.snapchat.com/v1/public_profiles/{profile_id}/saved_stories.
Because Spotlights are allowed as sources, one 6 to 60 second avatar clip can serve both a Spotlight and a Saved Story slot without a second render.
| Plan | Clips | Total | Fits 5 minutes? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five full-length avatar clips | 5 x 60 s | 300 s | Yes, exactly at the cap |
| Six clips of 60 s | 6 x 60 s | 360 s | No |
| Eight clips of 30 s | 8 x 30 s | 240 s | Yes |
| Ten clips of 25 s | 10 x 25 s | 250 s | Yes |
How does an avatar series work in Sume?
The Avatar video docs say current execution supports one resolved avatar per final video, with scene backgrounds resolving to one shared scene. So the series is a set of separate renders that all reference the same avatar_handle. Each is its own 4 to 60 second job.
Keep the same handle for every episode and the presenter's look stays the same, because the handle points to the reusable avatar you created once with POST /v1/avatar-1.0/generate. Spotlight needs 6 seconds at least, so skip 4 and 5 second episodes.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/avatar-1.0/talking-video \

-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: series-ep-01" \
-d '{
"avatar_handle": "product_host",
"aspect_ratio": "9:16",
"script": "Episode one. Here is the first tip."
}'Should you join the clips yourself?
Saved Stories take separate snaps, so you do not need to concatenate. If you want one long file for another platform, Timeline 1.0 sequences several clips; I did not verify its details for this post, so read its page for limits first. Pull the total from each clip's probe duration rather than from the script estimate, since the estimate is not exact.
Sume does not publish Saved Stories. You still build the three Snap steps (upload, spotlight or story creation, saved story) yourself.
Title and description hygiene
Count the title in characters before the call, since 45 is short. Spotlight descriptions have their own limit: up to 160 characters, hashtags allowed, locale required.
