Shopify video limits: 120 fps and WebM allowed, so Sume MP4s fit

Shopify takes video up to 1 GB, 10 min, 120 fps and 4096 px per side. Sume's 24, 25, 30 or 60 fps MP4 at up to 2160 px sits inside all of those limits.

The frame rate does not matter for Shopify. The Help Center allows video up to 120 fps, and Sume's documented output rates are 24, 25, 30 or 60 fps, all below that cap. The same holds for the other video limits on the page: Sume's width and height options top out at 2160 against Shopify's 4096 px maximum side, and the container is MP4, which Shopify accepts alongside MOV and WEBM.

Sume's side

Timeline 1.0 returns one MP4. output.width and output.height are even integers 256-2160, and output.fps is 24, 25, 30 or 60; omit fps and it follows the sources. The default is 1080x1920. Video trim accepts the same width, height and fps conform values on exact precision, and its source limit is 1800 s.

Compare lengths: Timeline's audio.duration_seconds goes up to 1800 s (30 min), which is above Shopify's 10 min (600 s) cap. A product video for Shopify should therefore be 600 s or shorter. The bigger risk for a long video is the 1 GB size limit, not the frame rate.

One conversion to avoid: if you set an fps different from the source's rate, the Timeline docs say the job repeats or drops frames and warns output_fps_resamples_sources. Matching the source rate avoids judder, and every choice is within Shopify's 120 fps.

Does 120 fps ever matter?

Only if you want slow motion from a high-rate source. Sume's documented output options stop at 60, so 120 is not reachable from the docs. For a store page, 24-30 fps is plenty and keeps the file small against the 1 GB cap.

Quick check before upload

  • Length 600 s or less, and 0.25 s or more.
  • Container MP4 (or MOV, WEBM).
  • Longest side 4096 px or less; Sume tops out at 2160.
  • Read size and duration from a probe on the final file.
