Seedance 2.5 on Jimeng or Doubao Pro: where the API fits

ByteDance launched Seedance 2.5 on Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro. If you need it from code, here is what Sume lists and what the vendor page says.

If you want Seedance 2.5 inside your own app, call it by id from an API. ByteDance announced the model on its Seed blog as rolling out on Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro, which are consumer apps, with API access then described as coming via BytePlus ModelArk. Sume lists seedance-2.5 in its video catalog, so a request with that model id is the code path.

The distinction matters because the two routes serve different jobs. A consumer app is the right place to explore a prompt, judge a look and show a colleague. An API is the right place when you need the same request fifty times with different product names, or when a result has to land back in a store, a CMS or a review queue without a person copying files.

Where did ByteDance say Seedance 2.5 is available?

The vendor post, "Introducing Seedance 2.5", says the model is rolling out on Jimeng AI, Doubao Pro and other platforms, with API access coming soon via BytePlus ModelArk. It names two in-app routes: Jimeng Web, then Video Generation, then pick Seedance 2.5; and Doubao Pro, then Video Generation, then pick Seedance 2.5.

Those are interactive tools. They give you a prompt box and a result, not a request you can put in a script, a queue or a spreadsheet automation. This post only repeats what that page says; check it for anything newer than its date.

Two cautions about reading launch posts. First, they are written for a general audience and compress limits into one line; a clip "up to 30 seconds" may still have a minimum, a resolution ladder and a different cap for a given access route. Second, rollout language such as "rolling out" and "coming soon" describes a moment in time. The post is dated at launch, so a developer reading it in October should treat availability statements as a starting point and confirm them where they will actually run the job.

What does the vendor page say the model does?

Per the same page, one generation runs up to 30 seconds, extension can be repeated for longer pieces, and one pass accepts up to 30 images, 10 video clips and 10 audio clips as references. It also describes timestamp-level control for editing audio and video, and joint audio-video generation.

Sume does not mirror every one of those limits as one number. Reference counts and accepted types are set per catalog model, so read them from the catalog instead of copying the vendor numbers (see the model discovery call below).

How do I call Seedance 2.5 on Sume?

Submit to the videos endpoint, then poll the job. The docs describe four steps: submit, receive a job id and polling URL, poll until completed, then download from the content URL.

A few practical habits make the first call painless. Keep the prompt concrete: subject, motion, camera, light. Start at 720p and a short duration to see a result cheaply, then raise resolution once the framing is right. Store the job id the moment you receive it, since the video is not in the submit response. The docs say to poll the polling URL until the status is completed, then fetch the file from the content URL, so your code should treat the job id as the durable handle and the file as something you retrieve later.

If you would rather not poll, add an HTTPS callback_url and Sume will POST when the job reaches a terminal state.

curl -X POST "https://api.sume.com/v1/videos" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "seedance-2.5",
    "prompt": "A product on a desk, slow push-in, natural light",
    "duration": 8,
    "resolution": "720p",
    "aspect_ratio": "16:9"
  }'

What should I check before relying on it?

Run the model list first: GET https://api.sume.com/v1/videos/models returns supported_durations, supported_resolutions and supported_input_references per model, which is more reliable than a blog table. The video generation docs explain every field.

What Sume does not do: it does not give you the Jimeng or Doubao Pro interface, and it does not promise features the catalog entry does not list. If the vendor page mentions timestamp editing, look at the request parameters before assuming a field exists; see Seedance 2.5 video editing for what is actually exposed.

A last point on expectations. Choosing an API over an app does not change what the model can do, it changes how you drive it. If a result looks wrong, the cause is usually the prompt or the references, not the route. Keep a small set of prompts you trust, change one variable at a time, and compare outputs at the same resolution. That discipline pays off more than chasing any single feature mentioned in a launch post.
