Seedance 2.5 free: what is actually free on Sume, and the smallest job
Sume's docs describe no free Seedance 2.5 allowance: jobs reserve from a USD balance. What is unbilled, and what the smallest seedance-2.5 request costs.

Generating with Seedance 2.5 on Sume is not free: a seedance-2.5 job is reserved from your workspace USD balance when you submit it, and the video docs describe no free allowance. What is free is the preparation around it, such as frame extraction and preflight checks. The smallest job, 4 seconds at 480p, reserves $1.08.
ByteDance's launch post announces Seedance 2.5 and says its API was "coming soon" on BytePlus ModelArk at the time of writing. It does not describe a free tier either, so treat any "free Seedance 2.5" result as a trial elsewhere, not a Sume feature.
How much does the smallest seedance-2.5 job cost?
The shortest allowed length is 4 seconds. The amounts below are what Sume reserves at submit, at provider list times 1.25, for a 16:9 clip.
| Clip | 480p | 720p | 1080p |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 s | $1.08 | $2.32 | $5.69 |
| 10 s | $2.69 | $5.78 | $14.22 |
Which steps around a Seedance 2.5 job are unbilled?
Three helper endpoints are documented as unbilled, so you can prepare and test a video project without spending on them.
- Extract stills from a clip with video frames, for a first frame or a review.
- Compile a project with the Timeline
/planpreflight, before paying for the render. - Check a program with the video filter
/checkcontract check.
What does still cost money?
The generation itself, and a Timeline render at $0.10 per output minute, rounded up (Timeline docs). To keep spend small while you learn the model, work at 480p and 4 seconds, and only raise the resolution for the take you will publish.
Compare a price before you submit with the estimate guide; per-second rates are in Seedance 2.5 price per second.
Why do some pages say Seedance 2.5 is free?
Free claims for a video model usually mean a trial credit on a vendor's own site, a daily allowance in an app, or a promotion with an end date. None of those is a property of the model, and none is part of Sume's API billing, which is a balance you fund and a reservation per job. Check the terms of whichever page makes the claim before you build a workflow on it.
How do I test Seedance 2.5 without spending much?
Start with a 4-second clip at 480p, keep the prompt short, and use the unbilled helpers to prepare inputs. Extract a still with video frames, run the Timeline preflight before a render, and validate a filter program with the check endpoint. When a prompt works at 480p, send the same request at the resolution you need. The table above shows how the reserved amount scales, so you can budget the whole test before you send the first job.
