LinkedIn video size: dimensions, length, and file limits

A video in a LinkedIn post can be 256×144 to 4096×2304 pixels, with an aspect ratio between 1:2.4 (vertical) and 2.4:1 (wide), a file of 75 KB to 5 GB, and a length of 3 seconds to 15 minutes, at 10 to 60 fps and 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps. Videos on a LinkedIn Page or Career Page have the same ranges but a 10-minute maximum. What are LinkedIn's video requirements?

The two pages agree on everything except file types and length. LinkedIn also warns that a ProRes file may upload but won't process.

What size should a LinkedIn video be?

LinkedIn's two pages give ranges, not one recommended size, so pick the shape first. 1920×1080 (16:9), 1080×1080 (1:1), 1080×1350 (4:5) and 1080×1920 (9:16) all sit inside LinkedIn's resolution and aspect-ratio ranges, and each is a size a Timeline render can take. Vertical 9:16 is 1:1.78, well inside LinkedIn's 1:2.4 limit. Whatever the shape, LinkedIn asks you to keep the top, bottom and side edges free of key elements, text and logos, so its interface doesn't cover them.

How long can a LinkedIn video be?

Up to 15 minutes in a post, and at least 3 seconds from a computer or 2 seconds from the LinkedIn mobile app. A Page or Career Page video stops at 10 minutes. Video ads follow a separate spec, covered in LinkedIn video ad specs.

How do I make a LinkedIn video with Sume?

Assemble your clips with Timeline 1.0 and set output to the frame you want. fit defaults to cover, which in current code scales each clip to fill the frame and crops what spills over, so 9:16 or 1:1 clips can fill a 4:5 frame; no aspect ratio on Video generation is 4:5. A render's length is audio.duration_seconds, which Timeline takes from 1 to 1,800 seconds.

• Keep audio.duration_seconds between 3 and 900 for a post, or 600 for a Page video.
• output.fps takes 24, 25, 30 or 60, all inside LinkedIn's 10 to 60 fps.
• Every URL must already be a media.sume.com file in your workspace, such as an earlier Sume job's output.
• Today a render's sound comes from its audio spine and optional soundtrack, not from the clips, so pass the voiceover or music as audio.url.

How do I check the file size and bitrate before posting?

In current code Timeline encodes H.264 to a constant quality, not to a bitrate, so the bitrate depends on the picture. Probe the render with POST /v1/video-inspect and frames: false, which is unbilled. It returns size_bytes, duration_seconds, width, height and fps.

Divide size_bytes × 8 by duration_seconds for the average bitrate, and check it is between 192 Kbps and 30 Mbps; how to check a video's bitrate walks through the math. Then check the file is between 75 KB and 5 GB.
