LemonSlice $0.22 a minute live avatar vs Sume's per-second clips
LemonSlice prices live avatar calls at $0.22 per extra minute on Starter. Sume prices recorded avatar clips per second. A minute of each is a different buy.
LemonSlice's pricing page lists a Starter plan at $7 a month with 41 free minutes and $0.22 per extra minute, and that rate is for live avatar calls. Sume's Avatar 1.0 makes a recorded clip of 4 to 60 seconds from a script, priced per second: a 60-second clip with no product image costs $11.04 on the standard tier. One is a conversation you stream, the other a file you render, so a minute of each is not the same purchase.
LemonSlice figures are from its pricing page, read 2026-10-03, and Sume figures from Generate avatar video and API pricing.
What do the two prices buy?
On LemonSlice's page the API costs are quoted per minute of a live call. Starter has a concurrency limit of 3 simultaneous calls, calls over the limit are charged at a 2x multiplier, and a conversation lasts at most 30 minutes. Hosted avatar experiences add $0.09 a minute, which the page says covers speech-to-text, the language model and text-to-speech.
Sume's avatar video is asynchronous. You submit a script, get a job, and fetch a finished MP4 later. Nothing in that route is a live session, and the jobs docs describe polling, webhooks and subscribe as the ways to learn that a job finished.
| Item | LemonSlice Starter page | Sume Avatar 1.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | Per minute of a live call | Per second of a rendered clip |
| Rate | $0.22 per extra minute after 41 free | From $0.184 per second (standard, no product) |
| Length | Up to 30 minutes per conversation | 4 to 60 seconds per clip |
| Concurrency | 3 simultaneous calls on Starter | Plan-based: 1, 4, 8 or 20 jobs, with queueing |
What does one minute of each cost?
A minute of live LemonSlice conversation after the free allowance is $0.22 on the Starter page, plus $0.09 if the hosted experience is used, which makes $0.31 for the pair as the page states them. A 60-second Sume clip is $11.04 on standard without a product image, $14.70 on plus and $33.00 on max, and $11.64, $15.48 and $34.80 with a product image.
Read those next to each other and the gap is large, but it is the gap between a live stream and a rendered, scripted, captioned-if-you-ask video. The live call has no fixed output. The clip is a file you can post, review and reuse.
- A live avatar answers a viewer in the moment, which a recorded clip cannot do.
- A recorded clip can be reviewed before it is published, and can be re-rendered or captioned.
- A clip is paid for once; a live call is paid for each time someone talks.
Which one fits which job?
Choose a live avatar for support, concierge or practice conversations where the viewer drives the content. Choose clips for ads, lessons, announcements and personalised outreach where you know the words in advance and want a deliverable. The two can sit together: a recorded clip on the landing page, and a live avatar for the visitor who asks a question. Price each on its own unit and do not average them.
