Is Kling AI free? Free plan, credits and the API

Kling AI has a free Basic plan, but Kling's own summary lists it with no monthly credits, as best for "personal non-commercial use". Monthly credits start with the paid Standard plan (660 credits a month). The Kling developer API is paid separately: you buy resource packages, and video models bill mostly per second.

What does Kling's free plan include?

The summary lists Basic (Free) at 0 USD with "monthly_credits: none", best for "casual evaluation, learning the platform, personal non-commercial use". It says nothing about daily or sign-up credits, so this post doesn't either. Every paid plan is marked "commercial_use: yes" and lists a 4K maximum resolution for video and image; Basic lists neither field. Plan prices have a first-month price and a renewal price:

Do Kling credits roll over?

No for plan credits; top-ups are different. Kling's credit note says:

• Credits are deducted per video or image generation, and consumption varies by model, resolution, duration, audio and mode.
• Failed generations do not consume credits.
• Unused monthly credits do not roll over.
• Separately purchased credit top-up packs do not expire for 2 years. The smallest listed pack is 330 credits for 5.00 USD.

Is the Kling API free?

No. The API quick start says to "Purchase Resource Packages" for video and image generation before you log in to the developer console. It also says Kling offers "a Trial Resource Package for integration testing and quick onboarding"; the quick start doesn't give its price or size, so check the pricing page.

Most rows on the API video pricing table bill per second; a few bill per request, and lip sync bills per 5 seconds. For example, the table lists Kling 3.0 without native audio at 0.6 Units ($0.084) per second at 720P. Can I call Kling through another API instead?

Sume lists kling-3 as a model on its video API. It isn't free either: per the Videos docs, jobs bill from the workspace USD balance, "reserved on submit at provider list × 1.25", plus a 5.5% agent fee by default. Per the generation admission docs, failed jobs release or refund the reservation where applicable. Kling 3.0 API works through a clip's cost.
