Instagram API poll_attachment on Reels: how the add-on works

Set poll_attachment when creating a Reel container: two to four options, 3 days by default, Facebook Login only. What Sume prepares before that call.

Pass poll_attachment as a JSON object of options in the POST /<IG_USER_ID>/media call that creates the Reel container. The changelog entry of Sep 28, 2026 says a poll offers two to four options, runs 3 days by default, and is available only in Instagram API with Facebook Login.

Everything here about Instagram is from the Instagram platform changelog, read 2026-09-30. Sume does not publish to Instagram; it prepares the MP4 you upload.

How is a poll configured and read back?

Caption add-on parameters from the Meta changelog dated 2026-09-28, read 2026-09-30.
PieceWhat the changelog says
poll_attachmentA JSON object containing the options for the poll
is_poll_duration_extendedSet to true to leave the poll open indefinitely; default is 3 days
GET /<IG_MEDIA_ID>/poll_attachmentReturns options and each option's share of votes

Can I run a poll on a Story?

No. Stories are not supported, and the read endpoint rejects story media. Reels and feed posts are. A poll is also exclusive with the other add-on type, a comment prompt; see comment prompts on Reels.

What does Sume do before the container call?

Timeline 1.0 renders a 1080x1920 MP4 by default, a vertical frame that suits a Reel (Timeline docs). To fit a length, video trim cuts a range of 0.2 to 900 seconds from a Sume-hosted clip (Video trim); the source must already be on Sume hosting, since there is no open-internet fetch.
