Appealing Instagram's AI generated profile label: records to keep
A snippet says notified profiles can add the AI label or appeal. What evidence to keep, including Sume job records, and why they cannot prove a person is real.

Keep what shows how each post was made, and appeal only if the detection is wrong. A search snippet from Social Media Today (page read 2026-10-02) says profiles detected as AI and not labeled are notified, can check Account Status for recommendation eligibility, and can add the label or appeal. We saw the snippet, not Instagram's own steps, so confirm the appeal path in the app.
When does an appeal make sense?
When the account shows a real person and the detection is mistaken. When the account is fronted by a generated character, adding the label is the direct route, and an appeal against an accurate detection is unlikely to help.
| Account | Better step |
|---|---|
| Generated character is the main persona | Add the label |
| Real presenter, real settings | Appeal with evidence of the person |
| Mixed: real host, generated backgrounds | Review the posts; label if a generated person appears |
What records help?
Raw camera files with timestamps, a short note on who appears, and any releases. For posts that used Sume, the job record shows the tool and time. Use GET /v1/jobs or the Jobs dashboard to export the list.
What can Sume's records not show?
They cannot show that a person in a clip is real. Sume has no identity check in the docs we read, and a job record shows only that a job ran. They also say nothing about what you published. If your posts mix real and generated shots, tag each asset when you make it, with a metadata note where the route supports it.
Keep records for the length of any campaign, and keep a copy outside the platform.
How should the file be organized?
One folder per account, one sub-folder per month. In each, the source files, the exported job list, and a one-page note on who appears and what is generated. A reviewer can then read the folder in ten minutes. Keep it simple, since a record nobody can find is not a record.
