Instagram limits reach of unlabeled AI personas: check Account Status
Social Media Today reports Instagram limits reach for unlabeled AI profiles; a snippet says Account Status shows eligibility. What to check and in what order.

Open Account Status first and look at your recommendation eligibility. Social Media Today reports that Instagram limits the reach of profiles with AI-generated persons that do not label them. A search snippet from the same page adds that detected profiles are notified and can check Account Status to see whether they are eligible for recommendation, then add the label or appeal (page read 2026-10-02). The snippet part is reported, not confirmed from the full text.
What is the order of steps?
Check, decide, act. Each step maps to something the report describes.
| Step | Action | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Read the notification, if you got one | Reported (snippet) |
| 2 | Open Account Status, check recommendation eligibility | Reported (snippet) |
| 3 | Add the AI generated profile label | Reported (article) |
| 4 | Appeal if you think the detection is wrong | Reported (snippet) |
When is labeling the right call?
When the face that carries the account is generated. If a reader would take the person for real, label it. An appeal is for a wrong detection, such as a real person your posts show, and it needs your own evidence of that.
What can Sume's records support?
Sume's Jobs dashboard and GET /v1/jobs list the jobs for your workspace. If a character was made with Sume, they confirm that. They cannot prove a person is real, and they say nothing about what you posted.
Reach moves for many reasons, and this post makes no claim that a label restores it. Check the numbers a few weeks after you add the label, and compare against posts from before the notification.
What should you not do?
Do not delete posts to hide the persona, and do not open a second account to restart. Neither fixes a labeling gap, and the report gives no sign that either helps. Do not assume a reach drop is the label either: seasonality, format changes and topic shifts move numbers too.
