Ideogram 4.5 costs 4 cents per image at quality: "low", 8 cents at medium and 28 cents at high on Sume. Medium is the default if you omit the field. The numbers are the Fal list prices that the Sume docs quote ($0.03, $0.06 and $0.22) times Sume's 1.25 multiplier, rounded up to the cent.

The arithmetic

The Image API docs give Ideogram 4.5 as ideogram/ideogram-v4.5 with a list price of $0.03, $0.06 or $0.22 per image by quality, the same for all sizes. Sume's price catalog bills list times 1.25 and rounds up to the cent.

Ideogram 4.5 billable per image (as of 2026-10-08, arithmetic from Sume docs)
QualityListList x 1.25Billed, rounded up
low$0.03$0.03754 cents
medium (default)$0.06$0.0758 cents
high$0.22$0.27528 cents

Which tier for which job

The three tiers differ by a factor of seven between low and high, so choose by what you will do with the result. Low is for checking composition and whether the copy fits the layout. Medium is the sensible default for social cards and slides. High is for the one frame that will be printed or shown large.

Ideogram is the row people reach for when a picture needs words in it, so the usual failure is a misspelled word at low quality. Test the exact text at low first; if it is already right, the cheaper tier may be enough for the final. If not, try medium before paying 28 cents for high.

  • Quality values are low, medium and high; resolution is 1K or 2K.
  • With no input_references it generates from text. With references it edits the first image and uses up to 4 more, 5 in total.
  • An edit without aspect_ratio keeps the shape of the source image.
  • Prices are the same at 1K and 2K per the docs, so ask for 2K when you will crop.

Budget examples

Fifty cards at medium cost 50 x 8 cents = $4.00. The same fifty at low cost $2.00 and at high $14.00. A mixed plan, 50 low drafts at $2.00 plus 10 high finals at $2.80, comes to $4.80 for ten finished images you chose from fifty.

Failed generations are not billed on Sume, so a failed call does not add to these totals; read usage.cost on each response to confirm what a call cost.

Edits cost the same tier price

The docs describe the price by quality and say it is the same for all sizes, so an edit that sends reference images is priced like a text call at the same tier. A relight or a logo placement on a product photo at medium is therefore 8 cents, and you can try three lighting passes for 24 cents before committing to one high render at 28 cents.

If you need many variants of one prompt, n is available, with the per-model ceiling in the catalog. Because the bill is cost_usd x n, four medium images are 32 cents and four high images are $1.12. Do the multiplication before you send a large n at high.

Compared with GPT Image 2.5

For reference, GPT Image 2.5 bills 1, 2 and 7 cents at low, medium and high for 1024-class sizes. At equal tier names Ideogram costs more per image on Sume. Whether that is worth it depends on the text and layout you need; the only honest way to settle it is to run your own prompt on both at the lowest tier and compare, which costs 5 cents.
