Three Ideogram 4.5 edit passes cost $0.09 at low quality, $0.18 at medium and $0.66 at high on list price, which is $0.1125, $0.225 and $0.825 after Sume's x 1.25 multiplier and before cent rounding. Quality sets the cost; size does not. The Sume docs give the list prices as $0.03, $0.06 and $0.22 per image by quality, the same at all sizes. The Higgsfield changelog (read 2026-10-05) says repeated Ideogram 4.5 edits keep colors, textures and details, which is why a multi-pass chain is worth pricing.

The arithmetic

Every pass is one image. Total list = price x passes. Sume billed = list x 1.25. The endpoints pricing line is the authoritative billed number, so treat the last column as an estimate.

medium$0.06$0.18$0.225

Mixed chains cost less

You do not have to run every pass at the same quality. Low-quality passes are for checking layout and wording; the final pass carries the quality.

  • Per Sume docs, the edit takes the first reference as the source and up to 4 more as references.
  • Feed each pass's output URL in as the next pass's first reference. Output URLs are Sume-hosted and signed, so download what you need to keep.

Chain code

This runs three passes, each editing the previous result, and sums usage.cost. It assumes each call returns 200 within the 30-second wait; at high quality and 2K a call may return 202 instead, in which case read the job result.

import asyncio, os, httpx

PROMPTS = ["Change the headline to 'AUTUMN SALE'.", "Make the background a warmer orange.", "Add a small leaf icon top right."]

async def main():
    headers = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['SUME_API_KEY']}"}
    url = "https://example.com/ad.png"
    total = 0.0
    async with httpx.AsyncClient(timeout=90) as c:
        for p in PROMPTS:
            body = {"model": "ideogram/ideogram-v4.5", "prompt": p, "quality": "low",
                    "input_references": [{"type": "image_url", "image_url": {"url": url}}]}
            r = await c.post("https://api.sume.com/v1/images", headers=headers, json=body)
            r.raise_for_status()
            if r.status_code != 200:
                print("job envelope, stop"); return
            j = r.json(); url = j["data"][0]["url"]; total += j["usage"]["cost"]
    print(url, round(total, 4))

asyncio.run(main())

Budget rule

Run chains at low quality until the layout and wording are right, then repeat the winning prompt once at high. That limits the expensive pass to one per asset. For the size side of the price, see why 1K and 2K cost the same.

What the numbers leave out

The totals count only the edit calls. They do not include the cost of a failed pass, which Sume does not bill per its Image API docs, or time spent reviewing. If a pass often needs a retry because the output is wrong, count the retries as full passes, because a successful but unwanted image is billed in full. A chain that averages four passes at high quality costs 4 x $0.22 = $0.88 at list, or $1.10 after x 1.25.
