How to download Sora videos after the shutdown

To download your Sora videos, go to sora.chatgpt.com/sunset and click Export; OpenAI sends you an email when the export is ready. Do it soon: OpenAI says it will permanently delete the data from your use of Sora once Sora is discontinued and any final export window has passed.

Can you still download Sora videos?

Yes. OpenAI's help article answers "Will I be able to export my data after the Sora app is discontinued?" with yes, and recommends exporting your Sora content as soon as possible. If OpenAI offers a final export window, it says it will notify you by email before the window begins.

• Wait for the email that says your export is ready, then save the files to storage you control.

When does Sora content get deleted?

OpenAI gives no deletion date. Its article says that after Sora is discontinued, and after any final export window passes (if one can be offered), it will permanently delete any data associated with your use of Sora. Treat the export as the only copy you will get.

What about videos made with the Sora API?

Clips made through the API had to be saved by your own app. OpenAI's video generation guide had developers fetch each finished MP4 from GET /videos/{video_id}/content, said download URLs were valid for a maximum of 1 hour after generation, and told them to copy files to their own storage promptly. The Videos API itself was removed on September 24, 2026, so the API copies you have are the ones your app saved at the time.

Where can I make and download new clips?

Any video API that hands you a file you store yourself.
