Burn a free-shipping cutoff onto a finished clip with caption cues
Burn a free-shipping cutoff line onto a finished holiday clip using Sume video-captions cues: text, start, and end in seconds, no speech needed, $0.20 a job.

To burn a free-shipping cutoff line onto a finished clip, send Sume POST /v1/video-captions with cues: each cue is text, start, and end in seconds. With cues, Sume runs no speech-to-text and burns your text exactly at those times, so it works on a silent clip. A job costs $0.20 for a clip of up to 60 seconds.
The cue rules are in Video captions (read 2026-10-06). Use only a cutoff date and terms from your own shipping policy: Sume formats the text but does not check that the claim is true.
What goes in a cue?
A cue is one phrase card. You may send only one of script_text, words, cues, and segments, so a request cannot mix a script with cues.
text,start, andendare all required for each cue, and times are seconds.- A silent clip fails speech-based captions with
caption_no_speech, andnext_actionisuse_overlay_captions. video_urlmust be a public HTTPS video URL that Sume can fetch.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-captions \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: ship-cutoff-001" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/mug-ad.mp4",
"style": "black-outline",
"cues": [
{ "text": "Free shipping on orders over 40", "start": 0.5, "end": 3.5 },
{ "text": "Order by Dec 15 for holiday delivery", "start": 3.5, "end": 7 }
]
}'Which style should I pick?
If you do not send style, the text decides: Latin text gets slam, and Korean text gets black-outline. slam, punch, and tiktok-green are Latin display faces with no Hangul glyphs, so Korean text on them returns 400 caption_hangul_text_latin_style.
| Style | Supports design overrides |
|---|---|
| slam | Yes |
| black-outline | Yes |
| punch | No |
| tiktok-green | No |
How do I move the line off the buttons?
Use design.placement.anchor_ratio, the center of the line as a fraction of the frame height, to lift the text. That key is not available on punch and tiktok-green. A bad value fails with a 400 at request time, so you do not pay for an incorrect render.
