FLUX 3 Image open weights are 'coming weeks': API now or wait?
Press says FLUX 3 Image open weights arrive in the coming weeks; BFL lists commercial weights by licence. Call an API now if you need results this month.

Call an API now if you need FLUX 3 Image results this month, and wait for weights only if self-hosting is a hard requirement. A press report says an open-weight version is coming 'in the coming weeks', with no date, and BFL's model page says commercial weights are available by licence. FLUX 3 Image is not in the Sume image catalog today; check GET /v1/images/models for the live list. The catalog lists FLUX.2 Pro and FLUX.2 Flex.
What is known
Only the model page and pricing page are BFL's own words. The weights timing is press, so it is a reason to plan, not a date to plan around.
| Item | Statement | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| Hosted access | Playground and BFL API | BFL model page |
| Commercial weights | Available by licence | BFL model page |
| Open weights | 'In the coming weeks', no date | Press (The Decoder) |
| Pricing tiers | Builder tier (10K images/month) up to Enterprise for open-weights licensing | BFL pricing page |
How to decide
Self-hosting trades a per-image price for GPU time, ops work and a licence check. I did not read the model size or licence terms, so I cannot price that. Until they exist, a per-image API is the only number you can budget: BFL lists 1k at $0.048, so 10,000 images are 10,000 x $0.048 = $480 at list.
- Need images this month: use an API.
- Need weights on your own hardware: wait, and read the licence when it ships.
- Unsure: run a 100-image sample at 1k, 100 x $0.048 = $4.80 at list, to see whether the model fits at all.
What Sume lists
Sume lists FLUX.2 Pro and FLUX.2 Flex (black-forest-labs/flux.2-pro, black-forest-labs/flux.2-flex), not FLUX 3. The repo's static list rates are $0.03 and $0.05 per image, billed at list x 1.25, so $0.0375 and $0.0625 before cent rounding. Confirm the live number in /endpoints.
