When the text on a video is wrong, you can either redo the finishing step or redo the clip. Prices decide which. On Sume, captions are $0.20 per job for videos up to 60 seconds. Generation is billed per second at the provider list price times 1.25, so a clip's cost grows with its length and tier.

The rates used here: Wan 3.0 at 720p and 1080p, Kling 3 Pro with audio on and Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 at 1080p, from their fal pages (read 2026-10-05) times 1.25.

Re-caption versus regenerate

Cost to regenerate a clip versus a $0.20 caption job, read 2026-10-05
ClipRegenerateRe-captionRatio
Wan 3.0 720p, 10 s$1.25$0.206.3x
Wan 3.0 1080p, 10 s$2.50$0.2012.5x
Kling 3 Pro audio on, 10 s$2.10$0.2010.5x
Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 1080p, 10 s$1.875$0.209.4x
Wan 3.0 720p, 30 s$3.75$0.2018.8x

Rule of thumb

Regeneration costs from 6.3 to 18.8 times a caption job in the table. Redoing a caption pass is nearly always the cheaper fix when the picture is right and the words are wrong.

Regenerate only when the image itself must change. Even then, change the prompt once and run a single draft at the lowest tier first; promote it only if you approve it.

One caveat: a new generation is not the same clip. If the take you liked is the take you must keep, the captions job is the only way to preserve it. A regenerate gives you a different result, at a different price, with no guarantee it is better.

Prices are reserved at submit and the final amount shows in usage.cost, as described in the video generation docs.

  • Wrong words: re-caption.
  • Wrong picture: change the prompt and draft cheaply.
  • Wrong length over 60 seconds: split before captioning.
