Five entry video subscriptions total $132 a month; Sume Pro is $40
Descript, Submagic, Quso, Zebracat and Biteable entry plans add up to $132 a month as listed. What one Sume plan plus metered usage does instead.

A small creator stack often grows one subscription at a time: an editor for transcripts, a caption tool, a clip tool, a template video maker, a promo maker. This post adds up the entry plans I read today and asks what changes if one account and a metered wallet replace them. It compares prices only; the tools differ in what they do, and I do not claim Sume replaces any of them feature for feature.
The five entry plans
Each figure is the entry paid price as listed on that vendor's page read today, using the monthly-billing figure where a page shows both. Annual billing is cheaper on several of them, so the real total can be lower.
| Tool | Entry paid plan | Listed monthly price | What the page lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Descript | Hobbyist | $16 | 10 hours, 400 AI credits |
| Submagic | Starter | $19 | 15 videos, 2-minute maximum |
| Quso | Lite | $29 | 100 credits |
| Zebracat | Cat Mode | $39 | 15 videos, 350 generation credits |
| Biteable | Pro | $29 | 10-minute maximum video |
| Total | $132 |
What Sume's $40 is, and is not
The pricing page lists Pro at $40 a month with 100+ video models, full Agent access, API, CLI and MCP access, a team wallet with on-demand billing, and 4 concurrent jobs. It does not list a credit allotment, so $40 is the plan, not a bundle of finished videos. Generation is billed at the model rates on the API pricing page: for example $0.01 per audio minute of speech to text, $0.10 per output minute of Timeline render, and $0.20 for a captions job.
A worked month
Take a creator who publishes 20 clips a month, each 45 seconds: transcribe 20 minutes ($0.20), render 20 clips at $0.10 ($2.00) and caption each at $0.20 ($4.00). That is $6.20 in metered usage, plus the $40 plan, so $46.20 against $132. The comparison is only fair if the five tools were all in use; if you only need captions and transcripts, one cheaper plan on one vendor is the better answer.
Before you consolidate
- Cancel nothing until one real month has run on the new setup and the receipt matches your estimate.
- Note which subscription features have no API equivalent, such as a browser editor with templates.
- Count only what you use: the table's total drops fast if two of the five sit idle.
