ElevenLabs Music rights after you cancel: keep a license file
ElevenLabs reportedly keeps music rights after cancellation. What to record per track, in any AI music tool, so you can prove what you used. Not legal advice.

A September 2026 changelog roundup reports that music rights survive cancellation on ElevenLabs, meaning a track made while you paid stays usable after you stop. That report is a one-line summary; the terms themselves decide, so read them. Whatever the vendor promises, the practical protection is a license file you keep: for each track, the tool, the model, the date, the plan you were on, the prompt and the downloaded file. This is not legal advice.
The same habit covers Suno, Lyria and Sume tracks, and it takes about a minute per track.
What goes in the license file?
Keep it as a spreadsheet or a JSON line per track. The fields below are what a client, a platform dispute or a lawyer would ask for first.
| Field | Why it matters | Where Sume gives it to you |
|---|---|---|
| Tool and model | Terms differ by model and plan | job.model and job.request.routed_model |
| Date and plan | Terms change; you need the ones in force | The job's created time and your plan record |
| Prompt | Shows what you asked for | Your stored request body |
| Audio file | The evidence itself | A media.sume.com URL in the job result |
| Terms snapshot | Rights can be revoked or reworded | Save a dated copy of the vendor terms |
Do the rights follow the track or the account?
That is exactly what to read in the terms. The roundup says rights survive cancellation for ElevenLabs. For Suno, TechCrunch reports that v6 is trained on licensed data with Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe, and that litigation from Sony, UMG and artists continues; neither statement tells you what a given plan lets you do with a download. Treat both as context, not as permission.
What does Sume record?
Every Sume job keeps its id, requested model and, for music, the engine that ran in job.request.routed_model, and the audio sits at a hosted URL. Download the file when the job completes and store it with the job id. See Jobs and results for the job fields. Sume does not publish a rights guarantee on this page's behalf: check Sume's terms for how you may use generated music.
What should I do?
Start the file today for tracks already in use, backfill the plan and date from invoices, and save a dated copy of each vendor's terms. If a platform asks where a track came from, you can answer in one row.
