Edits First Draft is iOS only: the Android and web route
Instagram's Edits First Draft is iOS only, per a secondary source. On Android or web, cut clips with Sume video trim at $0.02 per job and join them in Timeline.

The Edits First Draft feature is available on iOS only, according to a secondary source citing Instagram's help center, so Android and desktop users need another route. A server-side one is Sume: video trim cuts a range out of a clip into a new MP4 at $0.02 per job, and Timeline 1.0 joins the pieces. This does not replicate the feature; it covers the cutting and assembly steps.

Cut a range with video trim
Video trim takes one media.sume.com clip, a start in seconds, and exactly one of end or duration. It returns a new MP4 and leaves the source alone. precision defaults to exact, which re-encodes frame-accurately; keyframe copies the stream and may start a GOP early. Import the clip first, since off-host URLs are rejected, and send an Idempotency-Key.
Read the result from GET /v1/jobs/{id}/result: kind video_trim, with a new video_url.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-trim \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: trim-001" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/raw.mp4",
"start": 12,
"duration": 8
}'Join the cuts
Drop each trimmed MP4 into Timeline 1.0 video slots with source_in set to 0, and give the render an audio spine with a duration. Timeline costs $0.10 per ceil output minute. A plan call, which is unbilled, shows the cost first. Sources are capped at 1800 seconds for trim and 900 seconds for output.
Add captions as a last pass, after the timeline, so they do not get cropped.
