Dailymotion accepts MP4 only: 1080p at 30 fps wants about 4.5 Mbps
Dailymotion accepts MP4 only and publishes bitrates per size, such as 1080p at 30 fps at 4.5 Mbps and 9:16 720x1280 at 2 Mbps. Render a match with Sume.

Dailymotion accepts MP4 only. Its preset table pairs each size with a frame rate and a bitrate, for example 1280x720 at 30 fps at 2 Mbps and 1920x1080 at 30 fps at 4.5 Mbps. It advises 30 fps for most content and 60 only for fast motion. Specs are from Dailymotion Help, read 2026-10-01.
Which presets does Dailymotion list?
| Size | Frame rate | Bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1280x720 (16:9) | 30 fps | 2 Mbps |
| 1920x1080 | 30 fps | 4.5 Mbps |
| 1920x1080 | 60 fps | 5.5 Mbps |
| 720x1280 (9:16) | 30 fps | 2 Mbps |
| 2160x3840 | 30 fps | 16 Mbps |
| 2160x3840 | 60 fps | 20 Mbps |
Which of these presets can Sume render?
Timeline accepts even output.width and output.height values from 256 to 2160 and output.fps of 24, 25, 30 or 60. That covers 1280x720, 1920x1080 and 720x1280. It does not cover 2160x3840, because 3840 is past the 2160 edge limit.
How do I render 1080p at 30 fps?
Timeline 1.0 (POST /v1/timeline-1.0/render) takes output.width and output.height as even integers from 256 to 2160 and output.fps of 24, 25, 30 or 60, or omits fps to match the sources. It needs an Idempotency-Key, accepts only media.sume.com sources, and returns one MP4 at $0.10 per output minute, rounded up. The unbilled POST /v1/timeline-1.0/plan previews the cost first.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/timeline-1.0/render \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: dailymotion-1080p-001" \
-d '{
"audio": { "mode": "silence", "duration_seconds": 45 },
"output": { "width": 1920, "height": 1080, "fps": 30 },
"video": [
{ "source_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/shot.mp4",
"start": 0, "duration": 45, "fit": "cover" }
]
}'Can I hit the bitrate in the table?
Sume's docs list no bitrate or codec field. The render endpoints refuse codec, crf and filtergraph keys with a 400, so you cannot tune the encode from the request. A 1080p clip at 30 fps at about 4.5 Mbps is Dailymotion's guide, not a setting you can send. Upload a test render and compare the file size per second to the preset. Probe the finished file with Video inspect 1.0. With frames: false it is a probe only, it is unbilled, and it reports width, height, container, fps and duration_seconds. It does not report file size, codec or bitrate, so check those with a local tool before you upload.
Is the output MP4?
Yes. Timeline returns one MP4, which is the only container Dailymotion accepts.
