D-ID's V4 Expressive announcement, dated March 16, 2026, says output goes up to 4K, conversational turns come in under half a second, and plans start from $5.90 a month. Sume Avatar 1.0 renders at 720p today and bills per second with no monthly minimum. If you need 4K on a face, D-ID's claim is the one to test; if you need a pay-per-clip API, Sume's model fits.

Facts side by side

D-ID's figures are from its launch post; the Sume rates are from the pricing page.

Different products

The D-ID release is about visual agents connected to an LLM in real time. Sume's avatar API makes rendered videos. A 4K claim for a live agent does not carry over to a rendered clip, so test the exact product you plan to buy.

For rendered clips, Sume accepts 4 to 60 seconds and aspect ratios from 1:1 to 16:9.

Budget view

A plan from $5.90 a month sets a floor on spend. Sume has no such floor: a 10 second standard clip is $1.84 and creating an avatar is $0.95. Which is cheaper depends on your monthly clip count and the credits your plan includes.

Read the live D-ID pricing page before you build a model; the launch post is dated and plans change.
