Crop 4:5 to 1:1 for a TikTok ad: height 0.8 and the 640x640 minimum
TikTok's in-feed page lists 1:1 with a 640x640 minimum. A 1080x1350 feed clip crops to 1080x1080 with height 0.8, y 0.1 centered, then clears it easily.

To turn a 4:5 clip such as 1080x1350 into 1:1, keep the full width and crop the height to 0.8, which is 1080 of 1350 pixels. Centered, y is 0.1. TikTok's in-feed specs list 1:1 with a 640 x 640 minimum for non-Spark ads, and 1080x1080 is well over that.
The numbers
A 1:1 frame at 1080 wide is 1080 tall. 1080 divided by 1350 is 0.8. The window can shift by 0.2, which is 270 pixels. The crop removes 20 percent of the height.
| Window | y | Pixels kept (top to bottom) | height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top-aligned | 0 | 0 to 1080 | 0.8 |
| Centered | 0.1 | 135 to 1215 | 0.8 |
| Bottom-aligned | 0.2 | 270 to 1350 | 0.8 |
The request
Crop fractions are applied to the source frame, so the pixel result depends on the source size. The video filter docs require x and y in [0, 1], width and height in [0.05, 1], x + width at most 1 and y + height at most 1, and the compiler rounds to even values. One crop is one $0.02 encode job, the check is free, the source must be 300 seconds or shorter, and the request needs an Idempotency-Key. Sume does not auto-detect faces or subjects, so you choose the offset.

"ops": [{ "op": "crop", "x": 0, "y": 0.1, "width": 1, "height": 0.8 }]
}'Check against the TikTok page
The TikTok page also lists .mp4 and four other containers, up to 10 minutes, 500 MB or less, and a bitrate of at least 516 kbps. Sume's Timeline docs cover size, frame rate and length but not bitrate or file size, so measure the downloaded file against those two.
What Sume does not do
Sume does not pick the framing and does not upload to TikTok Ads Manager. If the 4:5 master has text near the top or bottom, it will be cut at 1:1, so add captions after the crop.
One more point on the TikTok page: ratios and minimums apply to non-Spark ads. The page lists vertical as the recommended shape, so a square is a deliberate choice, for example when the same file also runs on a feed that favors squares. If the ad is meant only for TikTok, a 9:16 master is the page's default recommendation.
