Crop a 2:3 Pinterest video to 4:5 for Facebook: height 0.8333
A 1000x1500 Pinterest video becomes 1000x1250 (4:5) with a crop of height 0.8333. Facebook's feed page lists 4:5 at 1440x1800; request inside.

To reuse a 2:3 Pinterest video such as 1000x1500 in the Facebook feed, keep the full width and crop the height to 0.833333, which is 1250 of 1500 pixels, giving 4:5. Centered, y is 0.0833333. Facebook's feed page lists 4:5 at 1440 x 1800, and Pinterest's page recommends 1000 x 1500 for 2:3 formats.
The numbers
A 4:5 frame at 1000 wide is 1250 tall. 1250 divided by 1500 is 0.833333. The window can shift by 0.166667, or 250 pixels. The crop removes one sixth of the height.
| Window | y | Pixels kept (top to bottom) | height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top-aligned | 0 | 0 to 1250 | 0.833333 |
| Centered | 0.0833333 | 125 to 1375 | 0.833333 |
| Bottom-aligned | 0.166667 | 250 to 1500 | 0.833333 |
The request
Crop fractions are applied to the source frame, so the pixel result depends on the source size. The video filter docs require x and y in [0, 1], width and height in [0.05, 1], x + width at most 1 and y + height at most 1, and the compiler rounds to even values. One crop is one $0.02 encode job, the check is free, the source must be 300 seconds or shorter, and the request needs an Idempotency-Key. Sume does not auto-detect faces or subjects, so you choose the offset.

"ops": [{ "op": "crop", "x": 0, "y": 0.0833, "width": 1, "height": 0.8333 }]
}'Scale for Facebook
The cropped file is 1000x1250. Facebook lists 1440 x 1800, so a Timeline 1.0 render at that size scales the clip up by 44 percent. If you would rather not upscale, a 1000x1250 file is still 4:5 and well above Facebook's 120 pixel minimum. Whether the platform prefers the larger file is something to test in Ads Manager.
What Sume does not do
Sume does not choose the crop window or re-time the clip. The Facebook page lists 1 second to 241 minutes, while the Pinterest page lists 4 seconds to 15 minutes, so a Pinterest-length video is inside both ranges.
A crop request of height 0.8333 and y of 0.0833 stays inside the frame because 0.0833 plus 0.8333 is 0.9166, which is below 1. The video filter docs reject any crop where x plus width or y plus height exceeds 1, and the free check will say so before a job is created. Run the check, then submit the encode with an Idempotency-Key.
