Bland AI pricing: Start $0.14 vs Build $0.12 plus $299, break-even
Bland charges $0.14 a minute on Start, or $0.12 plus $299 a month on Build. The break-even is 14,950 minutes. What Sume covers for the audio around calls.

Bland AI's Start plan charges $0.14 per call minute with no platform fee, and Build charges $0.12 per minute plus a $299 monthly platform fee. The two plans cost the same at 14,950 minutes a month: $299 divided by the $0.02 saving per minute. Below that, Start is cheaper; above it, Build wins. Sume does not run phone agents, but it sells the recorded-prompt and transcript steps around them.
Plan facts are from Bland's pricing page, read on 2026-10-03. The break-even and cost figures below are my arithmetic on those numbers.
What the page lists
Bland's page prices a call minute and says the rate covers the LLM, real-time transcription and premium voices, with no token charges.
| Item | Start | Build |
|---|---|---|
| Per call minute | $0.14 | $0.12 |
| Per transfer minute | $0.05 | $0.04 |
| Platform fee | $0 | $299 a month |
| Concurrent calls | 10 | 50 |
| Daily call cap | 100 | 2,000 |
| Hourly call cap | 100 | 1,000 |
| Voices | 1 | 5 |
The break-even, worked
Build's extra cost is fixed at $299, and it saves $0.02 on every minute, so the crossover is 299 / 0.02 = 14,950 minutes. Here are four volumes with the platform fee included.
| Minutes a month | Start at $0.14 | Build at $0.12 plus $299 |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $140 | $419 |
| 10,000 | $1,400 | $1,499 |
| 14,950 | $2,093 | $2,093 |
| 20,000 | $2,800 | $2,699 |
Limits matter as much as price
Start's caps are 100 calls a day and 100 an hour, with 10 concurrent calls. At the 10,000-minute volume above, a 3-minute average call is about 3,333 calls, which is roughly 111 a day over 30 days. That already exceeds Start's daily cap, so the cheaper rate may not be usable at that volume. Check cap against volume before choosing on price alone.
What Sume does and does not do
Sume does not dial, answer or transfer calls, and it has no per-call-minute product. Its audio steps are jobs that return files.
- Text to speech: $0.0475 per 1,000 characters, so a 150-character voicemail script is about $0.007 at the list rate.
- Speech to text: $0.01 per audio minute when you transcribe a clip through video inspect, with a duration hint of up to 600 seconds.
- Video: a short avatar clip for the follow-up email or landing page, which a call platform does not produce.
Cost of one call by length
Per-call cost is minutes times the talk-time rate. Transfer minutes are billed at their own, lower rate on both plans: $0.05 on Start and $0.04 on Build.
| Call length | Start | Build |
|---|---|---|
| 1 minute | $0.14 | $0.12 |
| 3 minutes | $0.42 | $0.36 |
| 5 minutes | $0.70 | $0.60 |
The Enterprise tier
Bland lists Enterprise rates and fees as custom, contracted to volume, with unlimited daily and hourly caps and voices. If your volume sits above Build's 2,000 calls a day, the public break-even is not the relevant comparison.
When transfers are in the mix
Bland bills transfer minutes at their own rate, $0.05 on Start and $0.04 on Build. If 2,000 of 10,000 minutes are transfers, Start costs 8,000 x $0.14 + 2,000 x $0.05 = $1,220 and Build costs 8,000 x $0.12 + 2,000 x $0.04 + $299 = $1,339. Build's saving per minute is $0.02 on talk time but only $0.01 on transfers, so the break-even moves out; with this mix it needs more than 10,000 minutes. This assumes transfer minutes are counted separately from talk minutes, as the page's two rates suggest.
How to decide
Pick the plan by your monthly minutes and your daily call volume, not by the headline rate. Use Sume for the pieces that are recorded once and reused. For the voicemail case specifically, see pre-rendering fixed replies and the general voice agent cost stack.
