Captions app credits cost 5 cents each on every paid tier
Max is $24.99 for 500 credits and Frontier 1x is $69.99 for 1,400: both work out to about $0.05 a credit, so the bigger tiers buy volume, not a lower rate.

Captions lists four paid steps: Max at $24.99 for 500 credits, then Frontier 1x, 2x and 4x at $69.99, $139.99 and $279.99 for 1,400, 2,800 and 5,600 credits. Dividing each price by its credits gives $0.0500, $0.0500, $0.0500 and $0.0500 a credit, so every paid step is about five cents per credit. Read 2026-10-03 from the Captions pricing page, which notes that the prices shown reflect iOS plans only.
That is unusual among credit plans, where the top tier normally has the cheapest unit price. Here the higher tiers are about access and volume.
Plan arithmetic
The table divides each price by its monthly credits. The prices end in .99, so the per-credit figures land just under $0.05 and just over it on the first row.
| Plan | Monthly price | Credits per month | Dollars per credit | Credits per $10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Max | $24.99 | 500 | $0.0500 | 200 |
| Frontier 1x | $69.99 | 1,400 | $0.0500 | 200 |
| Frontier 2x | $139.99 | 2,800 | $0.0500 | 200 |
| Frontier 4x | $279.99 | 5,600 | $0.0500 | 200 |
What the tiers actually change
According to the page, Frontier tiers include everything in Max plus access to the most sophisticated generative models and customized usage tiers. So the price you pay above Max is for model access and a larger pool, not for a cheaper credit. The page also says unused credits roll over monthly up to 3 times the monthly allowance, which for Max means a bank of up to 1,500 credits and for Frontier 1x up to 4,200.
The page did not show video minutes or API pricing in the part I read, so it does not say how many credits one caption or one edit costs. Do not infer a per-video price from the credit price without testing.
The comparison with Sume's fixed caption job
Sume's standalone video caption job is a fixed $0.20 per accepted job for a clip of up to 60 seconds, from the Video Captions docs. In Captions-app terms at about $0.05 a credit that dollar amount equals 4 credits, but that is a unit conversion, not a statement of what Captions charges for the same job.
Where the shapes differ: Captions is a monthly pool you must keep using to get the rate. Sume is per job from a wallet, so ten caption jobs cost $2.00 and none cost nothing.
What to verify
The cleanest check is to spend a known number of credits on one real clip and read the balance.
- The credit cost of a single caption or edit inside the Captions app.
- Annual pricing, which the page mentions but does not list.
- Whether the iOS-only price differs from web.
