Avatar creation $0.95 over 20 ten-second clips: the per-clip cost
One Sume avatar handle used for 20 ten-second standard clips costs $37.75 in total, or $1.8875 per clip. The arithmetic, with plus and max tiers.
Twenty ten-second avatar clips on one Sume avatar handle cost $37.75 at the standard tier, which is $1.8875 per clip. Creating the avatar is $0.95 once, and each clip is billed per second of estimated video length at $0.184 for standard. The one-time fee adds $0.0475 to each clip when spread over twenty.
The arithmetic
Avatar creation is a single charge, so the handle can be reused for every talking video that follows. Each talking video is priced by seconds and tier. Without a product image, the per-second rates are $0.184, $0.245 and $0.55.
| Tier | Per second | 20 clips (200 s) | Plus $0.95 creation | Per clip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| standard | $0.184 | $36.80 | $37.75 | $1.8875 |
| plus | $0.245 | $49.00 | $49.95 | $2.4975 |
| max | $0.55 | $110.00 | $110.95 | $5.5475 |
What the one-time fee does and does not change
The creation fee is small next to the video seconds. At standard, 200 seconds is $36.80 and the handle is $0.95, so creation is 2.5 percent of the total. At max it falls to 0.9 percent.
The practical point is that a new avatar per clip would add $0.95 each time. Twenty separate avatars would cost $19.00 before a single second of video. Reusing the handle is the cheapest way to keep the same presenter across a campaign.
Break-even against creating a fresh avatar each time
If each clip used its own new avatar, twenty clips would pay $0.95 twenty times, which is $19.00, and the total at standard would be $55.80. Reusing one handle saves $18.05 on the same footage. The saving is the same at every tier, because creation is a flat fee and does not depend on the quality setting.
The comparison matters when you batch work across weeks. A handle stays available, so a second batch of twenty clips next month costs only the video seconds, $36.80 at standard, with no second creation fee.
Checks before you submit
Details on the request fields are in the avatar docs and the avatar video docs.
- Billing is a reservation in exact USD micros, rounded up to cents at submit, captured when the job completes and refunded if it fails or is canceled.
- If the balance is short, the API returns a 402 with
insufficient_creditsbefore work starts. - Clips under the 4-second minimum or over the 60-second maximum are refused, so a ten-second clip is always in range.
- Retrying creation with the same Idempotency-Key does not charge twice.
A quick way to pick the tier
Run the same ten-second script at standard first and look at the result. The first clip costs $2.79 with the creation fee, and every later clip on the handle is $1.84. If the output is good enough for the placement, stay at standard for the batch; if not, plus adds $0.61 per clip and max adds $3.66. The decision is cheap to test on one clip before committing twenty.
