AI image model news, October 10 2026: what changed for Sume users

Read on 2026-10-10: fal now lists Nano Banana 2.1 at $0.040 for 1K, Imagen is shut down in the Gemini API, and Hy Image 3.5 Preview is on OpenRouter, not Sume.

Three image-model facts I could confirm on vendor pages on 2026-10-10 matter for Sume users: fal lists Nano Banana 2.1 at $0.040 for 1K, Google says Imagen is shut down in the Gemini API, and Tencent's Hy Image 3.5 Preview is listed on OpenRouter but is not a row in Sume's image catalog. Sume's own Nano Banana 2.1 row still bills $0.10 at 1K.

Everything below is limited to pages I read that day and to the Sume catalog and Image API docs. Anything I only saw in a search snippet is left out.

Nano Banana 2.1 pricing on fal

The fal page for Nano Banana 2.1 lists $0.040, $0.059 and $0.134 for 1K, 2K and 4K. Sume's code comment records the fal card at $0.08 on 2026-10-06, so the card has moved since. Sume's billed catalog prices are $0.075 at 0.5K, $0.10 at 1K, $0.15 at 2K and $0.20 at 4K, and they are a provider list times a 1.25 margin, not a copy of fal's page.

Imagen is gone from the Gemini API

Google's Imagen page, read the same day, says Imagen is shut down in the Gemini API. Sume's catalog still lists Imagen 4 Fast at $0.025 and Imagen 4 Ultra at $0.075, both text-only with five ratios. If you depend on those rows, test them now and have a plan for a replacement that takes references, since the Imagen rows list none.

Hy Image 3.5 Preview is not on Sume

The OpenRouter listing for Hy Image v3.5 Preview shows up to 20 references, 1K, 1.5K, 2K and 4K resolutions and 14 aspect ratios, with a text rendering example. It states no price or release date I could read. Sume's catalog has no Hy Image row, so you cannot call it through Sume today.

The sensible move is to wait for a catalog row. When one appears, its descriptors and pricing lines will be published on the list and endpoints routes, and you can compare them with the OpenRouter page then.

What to do this week

Read your own catalog output, not a news post. Call the list route, diff it against last week's copy and note price changes and new rows. For pipelines that used Imagen, run a small edit-capable replacement test, and for any pipeline that pins sume/auto, pin an explicit id so a new default does not change your output.

  • Re-check Nano Banana 2.1 prices with the endpoints route.
  • Move Imagen jobs to a row that takes references.
  • Do not plan around Hy Image 3.5 until a Sume row exists.

Grok Imagine prices on xAI's page

The xAI models page read on 2026-10-10 lists grok-imagine-image at $0.02, the quality variant at $0.05 and version 2.0 at $0.04 per image. Sume's Grok row bills a flat $0.025, and a catalog row does not name which xAI id is behind it, so do not map the vendor prices onto the Sume price by hand. Use the endpoints route as the single source for what Sume charges.

How to read this kind of post

Vendor pages change daily. A figure in a news post is only as good as its date, which is why the tables here carry a read date. For billing decisions, use the live endpoints route, and for capability decisions, use the descriptors on the list route. Treat anything else as a lead to verify, not a fact to build on.

One more caution about dates: the fal price card for Nano Banana 2.1 changed between 2026-10-06, when a Sume code comment recorded $0.08, and 2026-10-10, when I read $0.040. If a competitor card moves that fast, a quarterly review of your own image costs is too slow, and a weekly diff of the list and endpoints routes is not.
