A thousand six-second ad hooks is 6,000 seconds of video. At Google's list prices that is $300 on Veo 3.1 Lite at 720p, $600 on Fast at 720p and $2,400 on Standard. On Sume, Omni Flash costs $225 at 360p, $750 at 720p and $1,125 at 1080p.

Hook testing is the use case where cost per second matters most, because you generate a lot and keep a few.

Totals

Each total is 6,000 times the per-second price. Omni Flash on Sume accepts 3 to 10 seconds, so a 6-second hook is allowed. We did not read Google's clip-length options for Veo, so the Veo rows are price math, not a statement that a 6-second Veo clip is available at every tier.

The 360p row on Sume is the cheapest in the table.

Test cheap, ship a few

A hook test is a screening: you want to know which opening line, which first frame, which motion works. Run all 1,000 at a draft tier, keep the top few, and rerender those at the delivery resolution. If you rerender 50 at Sume 1080p, that is 50 times $1.125, or $56.25, on top of $225 for the drafts.

That makes $281.25 in all, which is less than the 720p run alone at $750.

Caveats

A draft at 360p is not a good judge of an on-screen text hook, because small type is hard to read. If your hooks are text on screen, test at 720p and accept the higher price.

We did not measure how well draft rankings predict final performance in ads. The numbers above are cost, not results.

Sume note

Sume does not list a Veo model. Its Google video model is gemini-omni-flash-1.1, which takes 3 to 10 seconds at 360p, 720p, 1080p or 4K, in 16:9 or 9:16, with audio always on. Sume bills the provider list rate times 1.25 for each output second, so its rates are $0.0375, $0.125, $0.1875 and $0.375 a second. Each hook is its own job, so use idempotency keys on retries so a network error does not create a second paid job.
