Sonix Core, Advanced, Pro: the real hourly rate vs Sume
Sonix plans work out to $5.00, $2.50 and $2.00 an hour once you use every hour. Sume's transcript line is $0.60 an hour. When does a plan beat pay as you go?

If you use every included hour, Sonix Core costs $5.00 an hour, Advanced $2.50 and Pro $2.00, all by my arithmetic from the page. Sume's transcript line is $0.60 an hour before inspect compute. Plans narrow the gap with Sonix pay as you go but do not close it, and they only help if you fill the allowance.
The plan arithmetic
The Sonix page lists Core at $25 a month for 5 hours, Advanced at $50 a month for 20 hours and Pro at $80 a month for 40 hours, with extra hours at $10 each. Dividing price by hours gives the effective rate when the allowance is fully used. Anything unused raises the real rate.
| Plan | Monthly price | Hours included | Effective rate per hour | Extra hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $25 | 5 | $5.00 | $10 per hour |
| Advanced | $50 | 20 | $2.50 | $10 per hour |
| Pro | $80 | 40 | $2.00 | $10 per hour |
| Pay As You Go | none | none | $10.00 | n/a |
| Sume transcript line | none | none | $0.60 plus inspect compute | n/a |
Break-even against pay as you go
A plan beats pay as you go once the hours you use cost less at the plan price. Core at $25 beats $10-an-hour usage once you use more than 2.5 hours. Advanced at $50 beats it above 5 hours, and Pro at $80 above 8 hours. Below those thresholds, pay as you go is cheaper. These are straight divisions of the listed prices.
Where Sume sits
Sume has no monthly hours bucket. It reserves from a prepaid USD workspace balance at submit and refunds failures. If your usage swings from 2 hours one month to 60 the next, a metered line avoids paying for unused hours and avoids the $10-an-hour overage rate. The cost to remember is that the transcript is one option on a video inspect, and the inspect charges compute on top.
Steps: decide in ten minutes
- Write down hours of audio for your last three months.
- Compute the Sonix cost for each month with the plan thresholds above.
- Run one representative clip through Sume video inspect with transcribe set to true.
- Multiply the per-minute cost you read on the job by your monthly minutes and compare.
What Sume does not do
There is no seat pricing, no shared workspace of transcripts to edit and no included-hours plan. The authentication docs describe plan-set API rate limits; I found no included transcription hours in the docs I read.
A worked example at 15 hours
Suppose you transcribe 15 hours a month. Pay As You Go is $150. Advanced at $50 covers 20 hours, so you pay $50 and leave 5 unused, an effective $3.33 per hour used. Core at $25 covers 5, then 10 extra hours at $10 each is $125, so $125 in total, better than pay as you go but worse than Advanced at $50. Pro at $80 is worse than Advanced here. On Sume the transcript line for 15 hours is $9.00 before inspect compute. The point is that plan choice matters more than the vendor if usage is lumpy.
Verdict
If a team edits transcripts every week and uses at least 8 hours a month, Pro at an effective $2.00 an hour is a reasonable editor price. If the transcript feeds code, the per-minute line on Sume is a fraction of that.
