The numbers

Zapier's pricing page says pay-per-task overage costs 2.5x on monthly plans and 1.25x on annual plans. On Pro annual, the entry tier is $19.99 for 750 tasks, which is $0.0267 per task ($19.99 divided by 750). Assuming the multiplier applies to that per-task rate, an annual overage task is about $0.0333 ($0.0267 times 1.25). I have not read an explicit overage price per task, so confirm it in your billing screen.

A Sume clip batch spends two kinds of money: Zapier tasks to move the data, and Sume wallet funds to render. The tasks are the smaller part.

A 100-clip batch

Say a Zap submits one Sume job per row and stores the finished URL: two action steps, so two tasks per clip. For 100 clips that is 200 tasks. On Pro annual at $0.0267 a task, 200 tasks cost about $5.33 ($0.0267 times 200). If they were all overage at the annual multiplier, about $6.66.

Compared with rendering, that is small. A 10 second standard Sume avatar clip with no product is $1.84 (10 seconds at $0.184), so the Zapier overhead of two tasks, about $0.053, is roughly 3% of one clip.

Keep tasks low

Webhooks themselves need Pro on Zapier, as the page lists them under Pro. Details for the Sume side are in webhooks.

  • Use a webhook trigger to receive the result: triggers are not counted as tasks.
  • Do the status polling in a Sume webhook, not a Zapier loop: polling is also free but loops multiply actions.
  • Use Filter and Paths for the decision logic, since built-ins do not use tasks.
  • Send identical retries with the same Idempotency-Key so a retried action returns the original job.
