Zapier Free plan has no webhooks: trigger Sume jobs another way

Zapier lists webhooks under Pro, and Free gets 100 tasks a month. Without them, run Sume jobs in sync mode, poll, or use a Sume SDK script instead.

The limit

The Zapier pricing page lists webhooks as a Pro addition, and the Free plan has 100 tasks a month. A Zap that receives a Sume job.completed webhook therefore needs Pro. On Free you need another way to learn a job has finished.

Options on Free

Sync only suits short jobs such as one image. Most video takes longer than 30 seconds.

Task budget

Free has 100 tasks. If a job spends two action steps, that is 50 jobs a month (100 divided by 2). Zapier's page says triggers, polling and built-ins like Filter and Formatter do not use tasks, and failed actions are not billed, so branching logic is free.

Steps

The SDK helpers are listed in the SDK docs.

  • Submit the job with an Idempotency-Key and store the job id.
  • Poll status on a schedule slower than next_poll_after_seconds.
  • Fetch /v1/jobs/:id/result once the status is completed.
  • Never recreate a paid job after a timeout.
