Treat any clip that shows or names a paid product as one YouTube may label on its own. air.io, a video-industry blog, lists "automatic branded content labeling" among the September 2026 YouTube changes (read 2026-10-02). It does not say how the detection works, so this post does not either. The safe move is to make your own record match what a viewer would see in the clip.

What should the pre-upload check cover?

Three things. First, whether the video contains a paid placement, a gifted product or an affiliate link. Second, whether the paid-promotion setting in YouTube Studio matches that. Third, whether the clip itself shows the brand somewhere you did not intend, which happens with generated product shots that print a logo on packaging.

Pre-upload questions
QuestionWhere to look
Is the clip a paid placement?Your contract and brief
Is the Studio paid-promotion setting on?YouTube Studio upload form
Does the picture show a brand you did not pay for?Stills from the clip
Does the voiceover name a brand?Transcript

How do you find brand mentions in a finished clip with Sume?

Video inspect samples stills from a clip you already hold on media.sume.com and can return a transcript. Probe and stills are unbilled; the transcript is billed at $0.01 per audio minute (confirm in GET /v1/catalog). Ask for stills every few seconds and the transcript, then read both.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-inspect \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: brand-scan-001" \
  -d '{"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/example/short.mp4",
       "frames": {"fps": 0.5, "format": "png"},
       "transcribe": true}'

What does this not settle?

It does not tell you whether YouTube will label a video, and Sume does not set YouTube's labels or Studio settings. It gives you the stills and the words so you can decide before you publish, and a job id to file with the clip.
