X video 20 min and 8 GB by default, 125 min for Premium: Sume caps

X allows post videos up to 20 minutes and 8 GB, or 125 minutes and 16 GB for Premium. Sume trim and timeline caps are lower, so check them before you plan.

On the X API, a post video can run 20 minutes and 8 GB by default, or 125 minutes and 16 GB for Premium or verified accounts. Sume's own caps are lower: a timeline render takes up to 1800 seconds of audio spine, and a trim cuts at most 900 seconds out of a source of up to 1800 seconds.

How do the caps compare?

Sume's caps come from the model docs, and the X numbers come from the media introduction.

What follows for a long video?

A 20 minute X limit is 1200 seconds, which is inside a 1800 second timeline render but over the 900 second trim output cap. Plan long cuts as a timeline, and plan short trims as trim.

The upload still needs INIT, APPEND and FINALIZE, and the media category must match the use, such as a post video or a direct message video.

How do I check a plan before paying?

The timeline plan call is unbilled and returns billable_minutes and estimated_cost_usd_micros, so you can compare a long cut against your X entitlement without spending credits. It needs no Idempotency-Key.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/timeline-1.0/plan \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"audio": {"mode": "silence", "duration_seconds": 600}, "video": [{"source_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/talk.mp4", "start": 0, "duration": 600}]}'
