A restaurant owner's promo need is small and regular: a 15-second clip of this week's special, posted every Monday. On the page read today, Wave.video lists Streamer at $16, Creator at $24 and Business at $48. I did not read the feature lists, so this post compares only what the weekly clip would cost if you build it from parts on Sume.

One weekly special on Sume

Start with a clip from a phone and a short spoken line. A Timeline render at $0.10 per output minute, rounded up, covers any clip under a minute. A 150-character voice line is $0.0475 per 1,000 characters, about $0.007.

Reading the numbers

Without captions, a clip is about $0.11, and a month of Monday specials is about $0.43. With captions, it is about $0.31 a clip and $1.23 a month. Neither number includes your time to film and upload. Against a $16 plan, the metered route is cheap, but only if someone is available to run it; Wave.video is for a person at a laptop, and I would not call it overpriced for that.

Five locations

A group with five locations making one clip each per week produces 20 clips a month, which is about $2.15 without captions and $6.15 with them. A script can submit the 20 jobs; Pro runs 4 at a time, which is plenty for 20 short renders.

  • Film vertically at 1080x1920, which is the Timeline default, so nothing is cropped.
  • Keep the special's price in a caption cue, not baked into the footage, so next week's price is a text change.
  • Never promise a price or hours you cannot honour; the clip is an ad.
  • Test the whole chain on one location before you schedule all five.
