Alibaba Cloud announced Wan3.0 as officially launched on 2026-08-24, and Runway's developer changelog lists a wan3 model on 2026-08-26. If you need one date to cite, use the Alibaba launch date for the model and the Runway date only for Runway's API. On Sume the model is a catalog id, wan-3.0, that you send to the Video Router or to /v1/videos.

This note keeps the three dates apart, because buyers searching for a Wan 3.0 release date usually mean one of them and mix up the others.

The dates, side by side

Both vendor pages were read on 2026-10-04. They describe the same model family but not the same product, so the dates should not be merged into one timeline.

What this means for a build

The model date matters less than the access route. Alibaba says its own API is open without advance approval, Runway wraps the model in its credit system, and Sume exposes it as a pass-through catalog row. Each route has its own prices, limits and failure behaviour, so pick the route first and then read that route's limits.

  • Alibaba route: its own account and API, billed by the vendor.
  • Runway route: the wan3 model id inside Runway's API credits.
  • Sume route: wan-3.0 in the Video Router catalog, billed from your workspace USD balance.

Wan 3.0 on Sume

Sume's catalog row for wan-3.0 is text-to-video, image-to-video and start/end-frame, with reference images, reference videos and reference audio, native audio, 480p/720p/1080p, and 2 to 30 seconds. The Video Router page states the 2 to 30 second range, and the same page says every row bills at the provider list times 1.25.

Read the live row instead of trusting any blog table, including this one: GET /v1/video-router/models/wan-3.0 returns the capabilities the validator enforces.

A minimal request

The request below pins the model, so Sume never swaps it for another family. Replace the prompt with your own; the Idempotency-Key makes a retry return the original job instead of a second charge.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-router/generate \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: wan3-release-demo-001" \
  -d '{
    "model": "wan-3.0",
    "prompt": "A slow push-in on a ceramic mug of coffee, steam rising, morning light",
    "resolution": "720p",
    "duration": 8,
    "aspect_ratio": "16:9",
    "mode": "async"
  }'

What this post does not claim

It does not say Wan 3.0 was available on Sume on any particular day, and it does not compare quality with other models. See the API reference for the request schema and the video generation guide for polling a job to completion. The vendor pages are Alibaba Cloud's launch note and Runway's API changelog.
