Video inspect hdr flag: spot PQ or HLG clips before you submit
Sume video inspect returns probe.hdr, color_transfer and pix_fmt. Read them first and route HDR clips away from the video filter and exact trim.

Sume video inspect returns a probe object, and two of its fields tell you whether a clip is HDR: color_transfer (the raw tag, such as smpte2084 or arib-std-b67) and hdr, a boolean that is true for exactly those PQ and HLG transfers. The API reference describes hdr as the early signal for sources the video filter refuses with hdr_source_unsupported, so a program is never submitted against them.
With frames: false the call returns only the probe, no stills and no transcript, so it is the cheapest look at a file. Sync is the default mode, and the handler waits up to 30 seconds before it returns 202 and lets you poll.
Fields worth reading together
| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| hdr | True for PQ or HLG transfers |
| color_transfer | The raw transfer tag, or null |
| pix_fmt | Pixel format, for example a yuv or an RGB family |
| rotation | Degrees the player rotates the frame |
| is_still | True when the file is an image, not a video |
A routing rule
Branch on the probe once, then pick the tool.
hdrtrue: trim withprecision: "keyframe"or export an SDR copy first.is_stilltrue: a trim or filter will refuse it as not a video.pix_fmtoutside the yuv family: the filter returnsunsupported_pixel_format.
Request
The probe call needs Idempotency-Key and a media.sume.com URL the workspace already owns.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-inspect \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: probe-001" \
-d '{"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/clip.mp4", "frames": false}'Read probe.hdr from the result and stop there if it is true. One cheap probe saves a failed filter job and a retry.
